I rarely write complaints, but after my recent stay at the Hyatt Regency Austin, I feel the need to speak up. I usually enjoy my time with Hyatt properties, which is why I chose to stay here during a rare vacation with my family, including my nearly 70-year-old mother.
Unfortunately, our experience was deeply disappointing. One of the most upsetting moments happened when a man was sitting in the hallway and began shouting hateful, racist remarks toward me, my brother, and my mother, including “Welcome to America, b*tch” and other anti-Asian slurs. This happened right in the hotel hallway, and there were people around who clearly heard it. No one stepped in or addressed it. I don’t expect free things, but I do expect a safe and respectful environment for the price I paid.
I also understand renovations are necessary, and I even decided not to cancel my stay despite knowing they were happening because I’m a business owner too and I try to support others. But starting construction noise at 9 AM, especially when we’re on vacation and hoping to sleep in a bit, was incredibly disruptive. It felt like someone was banging directly above our heads. I brought this up to the front desk upon checkout, and the response I received was, “Well, you’re checking out anyway.” That lack of empathy was shocking.
I’m writing this not because I want compensation or perks.I just want what I paid for: a peaceful, welcoming, and respectful experience. I hope this feedback helps improve things for future
