  • This is the headstone of Banner Elk, North Carolina. This elk has been in the town forever, but this past year the elk has been refurbished and installed as the centerpiece of the town. This elk frames Appalachia in the sense of this small town pride in the mountains. In the background you can see the historic elementary school and rolling mountains and once again the North Carolina pride of the state flag surrounding this elk even though about 100ft to the right there is another flagpole with the same flags raised high and proud.   • Throughout my childhood I spent so much time at this park. I always remember of thinking of it as the park in the middle of the mountains. What I never noticed as a child was how every single aspect of this park was planned out and put there for a reason. Likewise before studying the photographic image I had never thought about how we construct a image and its affordances and constraints. One thing I really want to point out in this image is that while we have this beautiful park there is a huge ugly pipe in the middle of the photograph. It is part of the necessity of the planning of the park, just like the frame is a necessity of an image. We sometimes want to forget it is there but it is a necessary part of an image and still has meaning. #appalachianechoes

Beautiful condo with Great location

We had a wonderful ski weekend. This is a beautiful 3 bedroom condo that is in a great location near Banner Elk, Sugar Mtn, and Beech Mtn. Judy was responsive and check in/out was easy. I would definitely stay here again!

Great location between Beech Mountain, Banner Elk and Sugar Mountain

Stayed here for Christmas and loved the condo! Great view! Very comfortable beds, nice bathrooms, well-stocked kitchen.Host was kind to keep us updated regarding issues caused by the September flood, even calling day of arrival to be sure we wouldn't miss the correct road, that was temporarily fixed after being washed out.Would definitely stay again!

Fantastic Property

Absolutely great place to stay while in Banner Elk. We’ve be coming to the area for 3 years to visit our son multiple times (5-6 a year) and this is the first time we have booked a property we had previously rented. Communication is good and clear; property has everything you could possibly need, and the view from the balcony is spectacular. We will be staying here again.

Perfect

Perfect getaway for our family of four plus my parents who met us from Charlotte! The two king beds were what sold us at first! The beds were so comfy and the condo had everything we needed plus more. Perfect location to ski at Sugar and Beech. Would highly recommend and would book again!

Loved this condo... Spent a week over New Years. Family of 5 had plenty of room. Furniture comfortable, game room was entertaining and kitchen well stocked. Beautiful view! Would definitely stay again.

Friends Ski Trip

The property was as advertised. Beautiful condo with a great view of the mountains and you can see the slopes of Sugar Mountain at night. Short drive up the mountain to Beech Mountain and short drive to the town of Banner Elk. Perfect location to take advantage of the ski resorts and towns. I would highly recommend this property.

Great views

This property was perfect for our family for the New Year. It’s a beautiful place with gorgeous furniture and a spectacular view of the mountains . We enjoyed watching fireworks on New Year’s Eve and seeing the snow falling. Super close to all shops and restaurants in Banner elk. It’s also just a short drive to Sugar and Beech mountain. The rooms were clean and very homey feel.the host was very responsive .

Everything was perfect! Two recommendations- supply coffee filters And explain that trash deposit requires to drive up to 2nd level to deposit trash and door is heavy lifting to open . Finally tv remote does not work well on Main level- may need batteries I

Perfect place for a ski vacation

This condo was the perfect place for a long weekend ski trip with the family! It was easy to get to even in the snow since the road up to it was plowed and the condo was on and end so there was a nice yard area to play in the snow. The location was perfect, a 5 min drive to banner elk and only 15 min from beech mountain skiing. The place was very clean, the decor made it feel like a cozy cabin. It was also stocked with everything we needed. The view of the mountains was gorgeous and the second floor loft game room was a fun and unique feature. It had an arcade golf game, a casino table, and table shuffleboard. I now have great memories thanks to this place and would gladly stay here again.

How to Improve

The place is beautiful and spcaious. However, there were some small items that puzzled us. For example, there was no soap provided for the showers and there was no facial tissues provided either. If the owner chose not to provide these items, it would have been helpful to know in advance so that we would have brught our own. We certainly managed but it was not expected, as this was a luxury style condo.

Brothers’ Reunion

Three brothers and 2 wives, all seniors get together annually. The unit was perfect for our annual reunion. We attended the Highland Games, hiked Linville Falls and rode the Beech Mountain lift. The condo was a perfect place to rest between activities. The porch is spacious and we viewed wildlife each day.
