Wow! I absolutely LOVED my stay here! The tiny homes are adorable, clean, and very comfortable. The story behind the homes is also really cool! The owners went above and beyond during my stay, southern hospitality at its best. The location was great, just a few minutes away from the beach and historic Cape Charles. I'll be returning!
We were appreciative that our dogs were welcome at the tiny house. Location was great for Cape Charles and beaches and the outdoor areas are fantastic. Although it was quite hot during our stay, we could see where the fire pit, cornhole and dart boards could be enjoyed by all.
Our only complaint is that the house could have been cleaner. Throw rugs were pretty disgusting and all in all the house could use a good deep cleaning.
The cottage was well equipped and we found that it had all the essentials for our short stay. It was just hard to get by the fact that the place did not feel or smell clean.
This is the best vacation rental I have ever stayed in. Beautiful, clean, well-appointed, and historic. Mr. Hawkins has taken this historic slice of old Americana and turned it into the most charming little vacation rental property. Mind you, it's small (hence the name tiny) but perfect for a single, couple, or even with a child. The cottage is as cute inside as outside. Whomever did the decorating is very creative. The owner lives nearby and is very attentive to every need, yet leaves you alone if you wish to be. This is so convenient to everything, yet there is little traffic on old 13 and it is very quiet. There is a wonderful outdoor fire pit and Mr. Hawkins will make a fire for you if you wish. Outdoor sink for entertaining, cornhole, long tables for crab picking, and in the summer he plans to have bands on weekends! There is literally not one negative thing I can think of, I will be back if my travels take me back this way. You can go wrong to stay here!
My wife, son, and I stayed at the Mermaid House for several nights.Pros:1. Charming tiny house,2. Check-in was simple.3. Location was nice.4. Allowing our two small dogs was a plus and much appreciated.Cons:1. There were old coffee grounds left in the coffee pot from a previous renter.2. Even though there was a wall heater, the lack of insulation and old windows kept the sitting and sleeping areas very cold and uncomfortable.3. The bed is advertised as a queen, but is actually a much smaller full-size bed.4. The dining table chairs were super uncomfortable.5. Despite me sending multiple messages via the VRBO app, and two provided phone numbers for texts, I received zero response from the owners during our stay. We had to leave a day early, so I sent multiple messages that were not acknowledged. While this is a nice place and the owners have done a good job building the Cape Charles Tiny Livin community, a bunch of improvements need to happen. It was fun and an experience, but a one-time thing for us.
The place was cute and clean, it is NOT in the town of Cape Charles. Surrounding area less than desirable. Perfect if the actual tiny house was within the town as advertised.
Stayed for a few nights in late August. Owner was great, nice seating area out front with firepits, grills, etc. Minutes from downtown Cape Charles. Will be coming back again

My tiny house was very comfortable and had everything I needed for a short get-away. I especially enjoyed sitting around the fire pit and chatting with other guests. My little dog liked it too!
The property and the homes are so adorable and comfortable. We also loved the community that we got to know while staying there. The fire pit is a perfect place to meet other travelers and swap stories. The property owners were delightful and have created such a beautiful space. Can’t wait to go back!
Our first experience in a tiny house in a tiny village. We are always looking for that very unique lodging and we found it . The decor and the story behind the houses is fascinating and living in an atmosphere that utilizes every foot is eye opening for sure. The owners are the best.
My husband and I greatly enjoyed our stay here. We love history and are definitely not city people, so this was perfect. The owners are renovating an historic car park. The cottage we rented was truly magical. Even if we would have been stuck inside by bad weather, it would have been okay because the place is so exquisite. The mermaid/sea theme is present throughout with lovely gradations of blue. The tiny bathroom is excellent with great water pressure, instant hot water and a rain shower head. The bed is extremely comfortable and the bedding and towels provided are high quality. Loved the convenience of the location. Close to food and necessity shopping. Bare minutes from Cape Charles. Maybe 20 minutes max from Kiptopeke. We bicycled to Cheriton and Cherrystone Inlet, visited Oyster, a real fishing town, watched the sunset in Cape Charles and Kiptopeke, and hiked the trails at the Savage Neck preserve. We also got to experience the most unique fire pit I've ever seen. Could even enjoy that in winter. Can't wait to come back.
This tiny house "village" is so special! We stayed in Mermaid - amazing "under the sea decor," very comfortable, great a/c, well equipped kitchenette, grounds safe/comfy for pet, wonderful fire pit area. So close to St. Charles, and state park with dog beach just down the road. But the best was hanging out with and getting to know our hosts. They were so welcoming and friendly - and FUN! Their love for this property shows, as does their incredible talent, in the rebuilding/refurbishing/design of the cottages - each with it's own theme or character. We highly recommend visiting, and make sure to meet your hosts or you'll be missing the BEST PART!
Stayed here just for one night and was very pleased with the property. Everything was lovely and the hosts have thought of many small details that make your stay even better. Loved it!
