The amenities advertised were not available, i.e. the pool and hot tub. These had been the deciding factors in choosing this hotel. No compensation was made more than a dry apology. Staff expressed themselves to be haggard. We pre-ordered a set menu and then were told we would have to pay 1 GBP more - weird. The next day we were told that this had been magnanimously waived (sic) No drinks were included in the meal. Drinks both at table and at the bar were unnecessarily pricey. Beer was served in a can... we had to ask for a glass... three times. Odd. Breakfast was good. The rooms and beds were old but comfortable. The bathroom could use a deep clean and the drains cleaned. Plumbing issue I think.

The pool was closed for renovations and I was informed upon arrival that it would likely be closed for 2-3 months (be warned). The changing rooms and sauna and steam room area needs a good deep clean. We booked a 'suite' room as a little treat to ourselves for our wedding anniversary. The room was dirty and in need of a serious clean. There were stains on the headboard (you can guess which type!!) dirty marks all along the edges of the bath and sink area. To top it off the plug in the bath didn't even fit the plughole!! So not possible at all to have a relaxing soak. This hotel used to be very good but has gone downhill in recent times and unless it gets a complete renovation I would avoid. The only positive was the friendliness of the staff who apologized unreservedly for the issues when mentioned to them.

Was notified that the pool was shut after making the booking, a small thing at that point. Bed was comfortable, room was clean and cannot fault them. However, always worrying when you have a balcony door which has a notice on it saying the door is damaged and must remain locked. The shower did not work - the knob to turn the water on would not budge, it was as if it had been superglued! I could adjust the temperature on the other dial, but couldnt get any water out, so resorted to a bath. First world problem, but not exactly what you would expect. This was a budget price, but others were the same price and would no doubt have a working shower.

Advise the staff that I’m checking in at 1.00pm was told that check in was at 3,00pm had to explain that I had a confirmation email to say room was ready When did put my details in to check my room was ready . no apologies , I found her quite rude

Room was well equipped wih aircon and large tv, but quite dated. Swimming pool was closed for H&S reasons - closed until the new year, but sauna and steam room were open. Very good breakfast and staff were all great and extremely helpful.

It's a nice hotel, friendly staff, and we had a nice big family room between the 2 of us, as my girlfriend hates my snoring, so it was ideal as it was split into 2 rooms, but it could do with some renovation to bring it into the modern era. Mainly double glazing, our room was freezing due to the big windows and balcony doors. It did come with 2 heaters, one in each room, but the choices were either to sleep with it being really humid and hot or be cold. I also felt the breakfast buffet was overpriced for what it was; it was nice, but nothing to write home about. About the same kind of breakfast buffet you would receive at a Travelodge or Premier Inn, but a higher price.

The hotel was very clean and the staff were mostly very helpful but a member of staff could not tell us where the stairs to the underground carpark was and when I asked for oat milk for my coffee, if never arrived. I also found that the breakfast was very greasy. Our room was lovely but I found that the mattress was a little lumpy. We would probably stay again but wouldn’t pay extra for the breakfast.

Pool found to be out of use after booking on hotels.com and looking on hotel website 3 days after booking which was very disappointing as would of gone for a morning swim with my daughter, this was not mentioned on booking details on hotels.com site at all. Check in was average experience and was told no food or bar after 10pm which was fine but not great for late arrivals as we were Reception is pleasent area but once you get up to room corridors via lift with worn carpet and tatty wallpaper in a frame to decorate it you really find the place really does need a refit. Although clean all areas look very dated (i would say 90s) and in need of re decoration. Room (203) needs new shower, bath panel dated tiling carpet not great and door stop missing rubber end dangerous fitted to bathpanel right where you step out my daughter cut her foot on it (reported to reception) Overall it was fine for a nights stay and would of stayed longer to use the pool but we left and headed back to kent after a trip to Alton Towers the day of stay Room rate was cheap maybe to refect the closed pool area which i was unaware of as mentioned at time of booking. This is meant to be a Best western signature hotel but having stayed at the Folkstone hotel recently your Derby property is way below standard sadly.

Hotel exterior and room are very dated. None of the balcony doors seem to work as they have a sign on saying failed safety test. Shower didn’t work. Bar closed early we thought would be open at midnight on return from the function we went to. Swimming pool also closed due to an issue
