Great stay with family in the Rochester Hills area

We spent the week in Rochester Hills and the property met all our needs. Information on the app they provided was great, and the host was very responsive for all our questions. The unit was clean and had all the items we needed (washer/dryer was a great feature). The communal pool was great for our daughter! Overall, we had a good stay.

Great Stay an Excellent Host

Very comfortable and clean apartment. It was central to so much in Rochester, especially the nearby Paint Creek Bicycle Trail. Everything was in good working order. The host was extremely attentive. Definitely would recommend.

Disappointed

Key instructions were not clear. There are two entries to this apartment building and the key is at only one of the entrances. Luckily the door to the building was unlocked. There is only one bathroom and two bathrooms was advertised. I see that has been corrected in the listing. WiFi passwords did not work, finally corrected. We will not rent from this host in the future.

Okay, but not for people with sensitivities to air fresheners

We did not enjoy our stay. First, the instructions to enter the unit were unclear. They gave a code, but didn't tell us that the key lockbox is hanging from a chain on a deck 10 feet to the left of one of the two doors to the building. We arrived after dark and there are no lights to see this lockbox. We only found it with our phone flashlight after seeing a previous review mentioning the same problem (why didn't the owners fix that?). When we got in the building, the code to enter the apartment was incorrect and we had to message the owners. They responded promptly with the correct code. Inside the unit was mostly clean, but the floors were dirty (food wrappers, a little mud, some pet hair) and there was a thick smell from a plug-in air freshener that seemed to be an attempt to cover up a cigarette odor. There was also a bottle of Febreze out. Even though we unplugged the air freshener from the wall, our family had asthmatic responses and itchy burning eyes due to the fumes. We could not sleep more than a few hours on the first night. We decided not to stay the second night. We didn't bother telling the owners because the fumes were so strong that we didn't think they could do anything about it. It seemed to have seeped into the bedding, pillows, furniture, towels, and walls. Others might not have this kind of issue depending on their sensitivity. If you're not used to heavy air fresheners, you might want to stay someplace else.

Overall OK - pros & cons

The apartment is in a nice, safe area. Navigating to and from area stores, restaurants, and the basketball camp we were there for was very manageable. All questions I had for the owner were answered in a prompt and timely manner. The morning of our reservation, we received a guide. This was very helpful. There were pictures of the different kinds of locks to get into the apartment - very helpful. The apartment was okay. When we entered the building, it had a strange odor. When we entered the apartment, it had an overpowering air freshener scent. I unplugged the air freshener but as someone with allergies, this was too much. The overall craftsmanship (closet doors, towel rack, vertical blinds) of the apartment is not great. I'm not sure if this is the owner of the apartment or the company that runs the complex. The mattresses were comfortable, although the bed in the master sat very low to the ground. The mattress stands were not put together very well and were pretty wobbly - I tightened a few screws with my hands. During our first night, we wanted to stay in a cook a pizza. The oven worked very well - it preheated quickly and did a great job cooking. However, the bakeware was not useable. It was old and didn't look clean. There is a full set of dishes, glassware, and silverware which was nice to have. Overall, the stay was okay.
