"This is a nice place. It is a little worn looking & you can tell it has been in use for a long time. It was a good location. Close to restaurants, the train station & Mesa Verde. It was a good value for the price. Other places were a lot more expensive. It wasn't the cleanest place I have stayed at, but it was adequate. I would stay here again."

Built in 1898 and carrying every bit of that history, the General Palmer is a AAA Four Diamond property that manages to feel both grand and genuinely personal at the same time. The location is unbeatable — right on Main Avenue, steps from the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, and walking distance to everything worth doing in town. The Victorian interior is stunning without feeling like a museum; antique furnishings, a classic two-person elevator, and beautifully appointed rooms with pillowtop beds and Egyptian cotton sheets. Breakfast is included and worth waking up for. Staff is knowledgeable, warm, and attentive. And the small touches — freshly baked cookies and coffee served every evening — are the kind of thing that turns a good stay into a memorable one.
