Stunning house and grounds
We had a lovely stay in this spacious comfortable cottage. Our hosts were lovely and accommodating. Great selective bins and composting very good for the environment. Thank you and would love to come back soon.

Wonderful!
Irene's place was perfect for my Aunt and I. We enjoy the comforts of a home when we travel and that's exactly what we got at Irene's. Plus the bus was just outside the door making the trips into Edinburgh so easy. The walk to downtown Dalkeith and restaurants was less than 10 minutes. The hosts were very helpful in directing us into their place with the unintended late arrival and in arranging a taxi for our trip to the airport. I only regret that I didn't have time to enjoy the beautiful garden. If you want all the amenities, plenty of space, easy access, parking, beautiful surroundings all at a great value this is the place to stay.

Lovely home in a great location
Wanted a few days to relax prior to a 10 day tour of Scotland. The Holiday house was perfect for two couples. Fantastic communication with owners and comfortable home. Well appointed notched and near bus stops. East bus access to Roslyn chapel as well as many other places to vist. We liked that we could feel safe walking to the stores and restaurants. We were sad when we had to leave

Scotland trip
We had so much fun in Scotland. Our host lived on the property and so was there to answer questions, let us in and was there if we had any questions. We met our hosts several times out in the garden as we were unwinding from our day. The site was very close to the train station, there were several stores to get groceries and we were very close to Roslin Chapel. We also drove to Stirling one day. Our rooms were comfortable and we each had our own shower. Plenty of room for the three in our party. Thank you so much for all your help. Our hosts were good communicators and they even called me before we left to speak with us about our trip. You can trust this one with your stay.

Nice clean property close to Edinburgh
Had a great stay at Eskbank - very clean property that has an amazing kitchen for cooking. The property is very close to the town of Dalkeith, which has great food options and many great places to walk a dog. The house is within steps of a bus stop that will take you into the city center relatively quickly. The hosts were wonderful at offering ideas on places to sight see. Highly recommended if you want to stay a bit outside of the city.

A Place to Call Our Scottish Home Away from Our Canadian Home
My husband and I, along with my elderly Scottish mother were fortunate to be guests at the self catering 2 bedroom annexe unit at the Rathan Guesthouse during our three month visit to Scotland, spanning over Christmas and New Year. This beautiful, charming home was a prime location for us, within close proximity to our family and friends. Together with the hospitable and friendly hosts, Ewan & Irene, the Rathan House and property offers a great central location, secure parking, gated access to the annexed unit, a beautifully landscaped back garden, with clotheslines, and Flora, their friendly family dog. The kitchen is fully stocked with dishes, utensils, & cookware. The location is also excellent for easy access to parks, buses, shopping, restaurants and pubs, all within walking distance. Everything one could ask for, especially for an extended stay. Our hosts, Ewan and Irene were most welcoming to us upon arrival, providing a full tour of the property inside and out, and expectations needed for a 3 month stay. Both our hosts were so friendly and accommodating to us throughout our stay. My son and his partner made an unplanned visit from Canada during our stay, and they were wonderfully accommodated with a room in the B&B Guesthouse. Ewan is very knowledgeable about the area, and gave us recommendations on nearby places of interest to visit. He kept us entertained with his many historical facts and adventure stories. Irene checked in with us regularly to ensure we were comfortable, warm and had everything we needed. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and meeting our gracious hosts. We are looking forward to our next visit. Thank you Ewan and Irene, we are pleased to have met you both and we appreciate you hosting us in your beautiful home.

A great eight days of Scottish golf and hospitality
The four of us really enjoyed our stay in Dalkeith. The property was well situated and all amenities were first rate. We would definitely recommend the property to anyone wanting to spend a relaxing time in Dalkeith, taking advantage of all that Scotland has to offer.

Fantastic place to stay
The home was perfect for our group of 5. The kitchen had everything we needed, the bedrooms a great size for all our things, and the location was great for getting around. Irene and Ewan were wonderful hosts and provided all the information we needed to navigate our way around Edinburg and the area. We’d definitely stay there again and recommend it to anyone wanting a perfect place to stay while in the Edinburg area!

Perfect for exploring Edinburgh
We enjoyed staying in the lovely spacious annexe adjoining the host’s house. With a bus stop outside the door (almost) we left the car behind and bussed into Edinburgh everyday. Although only a short visit for us, we would highly recommend this lovely accommodation for anyone wishing to visit the area. Thank you so much to Irene and family and especially Flora for making us very welcome.

We stayed here for a family party in the area and could not have been made more welcome. The guesthouse wing is beautiful overlooking the lovely garden. The house is very close to local amenities and also the bus stop with excellent services into Edinburgh.

Home away from home
The MacRaes were very accommodating. The location was very close to Edinburgh by bus. We were able to experience life outside of the busy city. The vrbo was clean and the MacRaes were able to give good recommendations and helped us figure out the public transportation. The view from the vrbo was beautiful looking out among the country side. My friends and I had a great stay and would 10/10 reccomend.

This was our second stay at this property this year, and we will be back again. Irene and Ewan are wonderful hosts who are always helpful (and are exceptionally tolerant when sharing the garden with our noisy children!). Wonderful Place to Stay
This residence is just great. It's a wing attached to the home of Ewen and Irene who own and operate this place. It's completely self contained with a fully equipped kitchen, living room and two spacious bedrooms. The living room opens up to a lovely backyard. The amazing thing is all the bathrooms. Each bedroom has its own ensuite bathroom with shower. Then, also on the second floor, there is another bathroom with a toilet and bidet. On the first floor, there is another full bathroom with shower! This residence is about a thirty minute bus ride into downtown Edinburgh, and the buses come quite frequently - about one every ten minutes. Less than a 5 minute walk away, you have a large Morrison's grocery store where you can get everthing you need. You can also get take away pizza, Chinese Food, and fish and chips at restaurants in the town of Dalkeith, all within walking distance. Overall, a great experience. Ewen and Irene are helpful and responsive when needed, but leave you to do your own thing.

My husband and I enjoyed a happy few days at this property with our children age 5 and 7. It had everything we needed with a beautiful garden. We'll located for visiting East Lothian, Midlothian and Edinburgh. We would definitely return if in the area again.

We did not get to know our guests well as we had a family commemoration which involved 2 nights in england. However the guests were pleasant and left the property very clean . Good guests and we would certainly welcome them again.

Great location for Edinburgh, exploring local beaches, Edinburgh Fringe
Irene and Ewan were great hosts. Property was ideal for our family. Lots of small touches within the house meant that we could settle straight into our holiday eg tea/coffee when we arrived. Cosy lounge with gas fire for the evenings and beautiful garden. Location was great for exploring the surrounding area and Edinburgh. There are 2 bus stops very close to the house and buses take you straight into Edinburgh, running approx every 10 mins Monday-Saturday. Would recommend this property. Very clean and welcoming. A large Morrisons Supermarket within walking distance. Some great local cycle routes on a disused railway line. We all had a wonderful and relaxing holiday. Would definitely book and recommend this property again for a holiday.

If you are a holiday home owner - these are just the sort of guests you love. Enjoying a holiday....it is great to see guests doing that. Pleasant to talk to, left the house really clean and tidy. Hope they do return - they feel like friends.

Spacious and relaxing stay!
We had a lovely stay at Rathan House, the property was good value and really nice a spacious. Plenty of room for 4 adults and a baby and it seemed like you could fit a couple more people as well. We enjoyed spending time in the large front sitting room with views out to the Garden and the dogs. Lots of bathrooms as well which was helpful! Overall a lovely stay, would definitely recommend.

Very comfortable, like a home from home.
The property gave us the accommodation we needed and there was plenty of space for the 4 adults and baby with travel cot. We were made to feel very welcome by Irene and Ewan. We were able to relax and had everything we needed. It was a perfect location for visiting around the area.

Lovely Stay in Scotland
The landlords were very nice and easy to work with. Mr McRae had many suggestions for travel during our stay and was full of historical facts to make our trip more interesting. Ms McRae was very helpful and always willing to make our days easier. We stayed for four weeks and only had a couple of very small issues, both of which, Irene was very quick to respond and correct our problems. 'Their property was clean, centrally located, and met our standards with high marks. We would recommend to any and all.

Clean, tidy and surpising spacious, easy access to Edinburgh or surrounding countryside.
We stayed there for 2 weeks visiting family nearby. This was our second visit and everything was just as we've come to expect with clean and tidy living and sleeping accommodation and all those little things, that you may need only a small amount of if self catering, already there. Check before you go shopping. Spacious enough for my sister and I to have time separately and together. There is a Morrisons supermarket 2 mins away and a bus stop almost outside the door with regular buses to take you in and out of Edinburgh in around 30 mins. Lovely walks nearby with Dalkeith Country Park within easy walking distance, their country shopping experience and eateries a treat for any weary traveller.

Lovely home, perfect for our family of 5
We had a lovely stay in this home in Eskbank. It was within walking distance of all the necessities and was clean, with perfect space for our family to settle in. I highly recommend it for others. Our hosts were lovely and very responsive (as well as open to offering suggestions for restaurants and ways to meet our needs in town). We will be back and recommend it for others.

Zwischenstopp in Edinburgh
Große Ferienwohnung und freundlicher Empfang. Sehr sauber und in gutem Zustand. Wir haben wunderbar geschlafen. Busstation nach Edinburgh Innenstadt nur wenige Schritte entfernt (alle 12 Minuten, 30 Minuten Fahrtzeit), ebenso Supermarkt und Restaurants. Wir würden jederzeit wieder buchen.
