The member of staff who welcomed us was a good guy.
The room was shabby, carpet stained, ceiling in the bathroom paintwork cracked and flaked off. Stains on the wall behind the head area. The old wooden Sash Windows were in such poor repair they were useless in preventing any of the noise from the constant stream of vehicles and drunken revellers under our window. With exception of our room the whole hotel smelt of fried food. As there is no onsite parking we were advised to park in the Tesco car park opposite the Hotel. We chose not to risk clamping and parked down a very narrow side street. The bed linen and sheets where clean. No dead bolt or chain on the door. So, having checked in at 9.30pm and rather than spend the night and drive back to Manchester in the morning, we checked out at 11.30 and have just got home at 3.10 am.

We stayed one night bed and breakfast. Enjoyed our stay. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast choice was plentiful and tasty. There is no parking on site but you can park in the retail park across the road. The only negative for us was the room was very tired looking and the bathroom could definitely do with a revamp. The shower kept running hot and cold. But wasn't a major issue as we were only staying one night. Overall a good stay.
Good hotel, good location. It was a pity that the parking places at the back of the hotel could not be used.
Parking was a short walk away in a side street. Fortunately, it turned out to be a safe place. But you never know....
The hotel seems to have been patched up many times and is now in need of major renovation. Things such as the shower door not closing are less than ideal. The staff are to be commended for keeping such a challenging building clean. On the plus side, the bed was comfortable which is something frequently overlooked by extremely expensive hotels.
My relatives live locally but my partner is allergic to their cats so we thought we'd stay here while attending a family gathering. We went in and asked if there were any rooms - we were told that there were none. Meanwhile, my father had booked a room (which they did have!) online and paid £60 for a double. The hotel claimed it should have been £70 on getting there in the evening! Raising this with the polite young man in charge (not the manager - we spoke to him on the phone!) we were given an apology and told we could have a lunch voucher as part of the apology. Seemed OK so off we went to the room. On opening the door to it, the young man apologised again as the room was, clearly, occupied. He explained that their reservations system didn't seem to be working and that the only room now left was a family room with three single beds (how did he know it was available?). We had no real option by that time, took it and went back to our gathering. Getting back later that night we found stained and uncomfortable beds, a leaking toilet, stained carpet, leaking skylight and my partner was awoken during the night by someone retching long and loud in the shared bathroom which, needless to say, we didn't use. We left the next morning without sampling breakfast or the 'lunch voucher', all too pleased that we will never be back.
