We were very disappointed with this flat. We expected a beautifully appointed, well furnished, and cozy home away from home, by the description and the photos. However, many of the items depicted in the photos had been removed (area carpet, coffee table, second kitchen chair, bed side tables, lovely wall art, beautiful bed linens, leaving a more sparse, sterile living environment.
In fairness, I will, however, mention the positives of the flat. Although noisy and without the charm found elsewhere in Glasgow, the location in Merchant City is very convenient to get to many of the highlights of the city. Great shopping, good restaurants, Barras Market, access to public transportation are an easy walk away. A Hop on Hop Off bus stop is within just a couple of blocks. The beds were comfortable. The bathrooms were nice, with ample towels provided. The WiFi was among the best in a VRBO we have experienced in our extensive travel. The washer/dryer combination worked great!
On the downside, the kitchen was poorly equipped, if anyone really wants to cook at home instead of eating out or getting take away. Just a few examples, upon arrival the freezer had been turned off and the ice had melted all over the bottom, a mess to clean up after a long, difficult day of travel. The shelves in the refrigerator weren’t in place. Handles on two of the few pots and pans were loose and wobbly. Although there were plenty of spoons and knives, there were only 3 forks (for a party of 4). The lighting was poor, and at least a third of the overhead lights were burned out. The closet door in the second bedroom had a broken rail frame.
In short, the amenities in the flat were not as described, so for us the flat felt very sterile and uninviting. Also, the flat has been poorly maintained and felt like the owners are in the process of "moving out." If the owners intend to continue to rent out this flat, we recommend they change the photos to depict a more accurate description of what it is like now, not how it was, and take care of the unattended maintenance issues.
