I booked a standard double room via Expedia. The room itself is quite small however it is well equipped and super clean. There is only a small in-room TV that only broadcasts Vietnamese channels in the room (no cable channels). Other room features include amenities in the bathroom, air con, kettle, bath towels, cups and 2 bottles of water. The bathroom is quite large compared to the rest of the room and the shower has great shower pressure. The room door has a lock on the inside and there is a small window covered with curtains. Please beware that the double bed is probably too small for American / Australian guests.
The hotel hosts are extremely friendly as this is a family run business. They offer a shuttle service from the airport to the hotel for a fee of US$3. The surrounding area is absolutely horrendous (really not much to see and do) however one is able to call a taxi to take you from the hotel to the airport for 50,000 VND (approx. US$2.20) and then catch BUS 86 from the airport to Hanoi CBD for 30,000 VND per person (approx. US$1.36 per person).
Rooms are meant to be serviced on a daily basis however they were only serviced 3 times during our 7-day stay.
Be really careful with cabbies as they will try to rip you off. A ride from and to the airport should only cost you 50,000VND. Also, they don't like to take you to the Avi Airport Hotel (as it is "too close" to the airport) and will give you all sorts of excuses not to take you.
