An overall good but older resort which had some quirks. Our bathroom had a constant sewer smell despite multiple cleaning/maintenance requests. Not a fancy room but mostly clean otherwise. The food was good with decent variety. The restaurants that you book al-la-carte were even better. Beautiful beach with small waves, easy for swimming.

The Barcelo is a nice hotel with a good location. The beach is flat, long and very walkable which we enjoyed. It was very busy and there was a lot of trouble finding an empty chaise in the morning. People were leaving their towels on them overnight. The staff were overworked and we felt hurried over our meals. The pool bar was full of the same group of about twenty people who were there all day every day and got louder as the day went on. The young people who organized the activities were great, Zumba, pool aerobics beach volleyball, they did it all. We upgraded to an ocean view room which brought the price up to more than what we felt it was worth. I think if we had gone a different week when it was maybe not so crowded it would had been more enjoyable for us. Overall we had a good week at the Barcelo not a great week.

Beautiful view, friendly staff, clean rooms, activities for all ages. Walking distance to stores. Beautiful beaches. Parasailing from the beach is available as well. Food was great.

Nos cambiaron de habitación por reservar con expedía a uno con vista parcial al mar eso fue muy bueno y la verdad todo muy agradable con el hotel, es cierto que parece que le tienen cierta preferencia a los extranjeros incluso me tocó ver que los dejaban pasar en shorts a la restaurantes de especialidad y a un mexicano no lo dejaron por traer shorts, fuera de esa experiencia desagradable todo está increíble y la comida muy rica, la playa de lo mejor y si pueden tomar el paseo en bicicleta 100% recomendado, la habitación la entregaron media hora antes, muy bien por la recepción

Resort was clean, food was decent, lunch & evening service staff were impeccable. À la carte is hard to book - so make your reso early in. All the evening and day shows are in full Spanish - would be nice to have some English words so you know what is happening. Samba bar in the evening, also is all Spanish songs & speaking. Hard to enjoy when you aren’t fluent. Beautiful location! Would definitely travel to Ixtapa again, although would try another resort.

This place was amazing. the whole hotel clean almost spotless...always someone cleaning or sweeping...The staff excellent, anything I asked for they tried or met my every expectation. The food plentiful and tasteful. The beach was just steps away from the pool. This place has no control over the weather however was there for 24 days never a drop of rain and very few or almost never any clouds. Never felt unsafe..always secured...Thank you for the staff. Edwardo best waiter and Paulina Adame the Concierge was amazing knowledgeable and so very helpful.

Always enjoy the Barcelo resorts. Very clean, friendly staff, good food. Lovely pools. Friday night fiesta was wonderful! Felt the pride of Mexico! Don't order a Mojito though, they use ground mint in simple syrup, feel like you are chewing a cow's cudd.

Overall the stay was great, staff was wonderful, food was overall pretty good, we liked the location it was nice to walk across the street which we did to watch some of the Olympics at the sports bars/restaurants. Our favorite was Shorty's they cater to the Canucks and their love of hockey. The pool chairs were super uncomfortable, they to be replaced with ones that you can also sit straight up in. I spent most of the holiday in a plastic chair form the patio area as did alot of the guests.

The beautiful landscape, lots of pools, fun entertainment.. Our room attendant never made us towel art, while the 3 other couples had some really cute ones.also it took a couple days for her to mop up the coffee spot, and the outside patio table never did get washed off. We discovered the pool with the waterfall over it, and pinky swore with Edward we would be back. He was the most friendly. The main swim up bar was too busy for the guys working to serve to smile even. I loved the view from our room ( 612 ) there were whale out there even!

The room was good. Other then we booked a king superior ocean view but when we arrived they only had regular 2 double bed rooms available. Food was good. Staff was nice. Was clean. Had a good time.

The staff were consistently courteous, friendly, and genuinely helpful throughout our visit. When we first checked in, there were a few items in the room that weren’t working (safe, TV, and telephone), but to their credit, everything was addressed immediately. One morning I noticed a small leak coming from the bathroom ceiling. Maintenance arrived within 15 minutes of my call and quickly fixed the issue (a clogged air conditioning tube). Very responsive service — that kind of attentiveness makes a difference. The one ongoing frustration — and this seems common at many resorts — was securing poolside lounge chairs. I had to get up around 6:00 AM every day to try and find chairs, and even then, many were already “claimed.” Despite signage stating that chairs cannot be reserved, people were placing towels out as early as 10:00 PM the night before. Many of those chairs then sat unused until late afternoon. That system simply isn’t fair to guests who actually want to use the pool during the day. Management really should enforce their own policy. The selection of à la carte restaurants was somewhat limited, but overall the food and experience were good. In summary: excellent staff and service, a few minor room issues handled promptly, and a lounge chair situation that needs better enforcement. Overall, we enjoyed our stay.
