Winchester Jane Austen's House Hotels

"Bed wasn’t comfortable. Pillows rock hard. Rooms very hot and small. They did however move us a slightly bigger room. 1:30am people in corridor shouting and laughing. There is a clear gap in the front door and corridor seen at the bottom. Talking about a good half inch. 3am wedding party in the gardens shouting and again very loud. Tried to call reception to alert and ask to quiet down as 3-4people shouting in the garden. No answer. Impossible to get through to reception. On check out I explained this and no care what so ever but proceeded to take the card machine out and say you owe us £10. "

"Breakfast and meals were excellent. Service on point. The garden suites are quiet and tucked away from the main hotel, very spacious and well appointed. Wardrobe carpentry and TV could do with an upgrade. Otherwise a nice getaway from London "

"Lunch was wildly expensive but breakfast was good. It would have been helpful to know we were on the 3rd floor no elevators and tiny circular stairs. For those with some mobility challenges it’s a hike!"

"Our stay was for a couple of days to attend a Wedding in Winchester. St John’s Croft is ideally placed within 5 minutes easy walk of the town centre, with on site parking at the property. The property is a lovely grand farmhouse, in a very quiet raised spot, considering how close it is to everything. The property has a lovey, relaxed, arty/boho feel to it, with a warm atmosphere. Our room had a large double and single daybed, two very comfortable armchairs, coffee table, lots of side lamps and a TV. A good powerful shower in our private bathroom, with lots of hot water was most welcome. Dotty cooked us a marvellous breakfast around a large communal kitchen table by the AGA. I would more than happily stay here again. Thank you. "

"It's such a shame! The building of the old Mercure hotel holds ok. The double room was spacious, clean, comfortable and with an amazing close view of the Winchester cathedral (practically over its grounds). But there was no milk for the tea in the room and the television did not show a single BBC channel (not even radio stations), had no access to satelite, internet or cable. When I called reception to ask if perhaps there was something I was not doing properly with the remote control, I was asked if the TV was showing other channels. When I said that only commercial channels seemed to be available, I was told that this was what was on offer and that's it. In some way, I'm grateful for the experience because it opened my eyes to how miserable life would be without the BBC service. I'll certainly pay the BBC licence with gusto now! "

"I loved this olde worlde hotel with its quirky characteristics like the uneven floors and the wonky staircase. I just had to take a photo of my bedroom door! The staff were very friendly and helpful. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and the food was delicious. "
