Loved loved loved our stay! Owner was so kind and informative. He gave us a free room upgrade which was such a wonderful surprise! He also kept our luggage safe before we arrived and helped us ship it to our next destination. He made this stay feel like a home away from home, so we were excited to come back each night. There is a mall super close by which was convenient. By far the best place we've stayed at in Japan. Looking forward to going back!

Amazingly friendly host will give insider tips to travelers about the hidden gems of Kyoto. Actually deserves at least three stars for exceptional service, clean and high quality facilities, quiet but convenient for travel location.

Could not be happier about my 2 days stay at Rakucho ryokan. The room was perfect: clean, quiet, the futon super confortable and the showers/toilets clean and surprisingly quite modern. The host was very welcoming and offered really great suggestions for my stay. The small bike rental shop he suggested (“Bike laboratory”) really made my trip to Kyoto a memorable one. I arrived earlier than check in time, but was able to leave my luggage in a locker in the close by subway station and took this time opportunity to visit the awesome Kyoto botanical garden, a short walk away. Will definitely return.
