"At the price, the most we hoped for was non-aggressive cockroaches. What we got was a beautiful room, friendly staff, and a great hot breakfast. Terrific value and very highly recommended! Will surely stay here again."

"This is a very nice, quiet hotel. The decor is very beautiful, especially in the check in area. We really liked how there was a “do not disturb” button you can push rather than a card hanging from the door handle that gets in the way. The bathroom was very spacious, with a large shower and dual shower heads. We were able to hear upstairs guests from the bathroom since it has quite a bit of an echo. There were also a couple of dead bugs in our shower, but overall the room was very clean and smelled nice. There isn’t a side door from what we could tell to enter the hotel with a room key, so you do have to walk across the parking lot to the main entrance. In my opinion the price of the room PLUS an additional amenity fee are a bit high when there aren’t really any unique amenities that other hotels don’t also offer. No pool/hot tub, and food is offered a the various restaurants for an additional cost. There are vending machines, although one was down. Sounds like there is a spa (for additional cost) although we did not see it while we were there. The cafe on the main floor near the casino was reasonably priced. Overall it was a nice stay for the night while in town for a concert nearby and we would stay again!"

"Overall the Phillips was a fun getaway. The architecture and decor is really cool! We paid extra and upgraded our room to a deluxe king so we could have a little sitting area and received a room without that. We talked to management and they said not all deluxe rooms have that. If we knew we weren’t going to get that, there would have been no reason to upgrade. There’s no mini fridge in the room. We thought the place needed some attention. The tiles on the shower floor were coming off, there was a spot on the bathroom wall that had been repaired but never sanded and repainted. The toilet bowl looked dirty. The paint was chipping off the sink drain. Many of the chairs throughout the premises had spots where the wood and leather were wearing away. The ice water in the lobby was always empty and it was a really hot day. Nothing earth shattering, but could use attention. The speakeasy was really cool but we didn’t stay because it was so loud in there we couldn’t hear each other. Definitely make reservations if you plan to go. We didn’t try any of the restaurants. Location was great- within walking distance to the free street car so we took that everywhere. 10 min walk to the Kauffman Center. 4 min walk to the 10th & Wyandotte parking garage that was $15 to park overnight. Staff was pleasant. Room was clean other than what I mentioned above. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. Overall it was a good experience."
