We spotted the village from the road above, fishing village down a steep road, cobblestones and cottages. Gorgeous 300 year old pub on the harbour, great atmosphere, comfy bed and room, breakfast the next day was fresh and plentiful and offered with love and care. Really enjoyed it, 20 steos from the harbour so pretty to walk around.
Lovely food, room, staff and area. Cute family room. Cosy with everything you need for a night away. Plenty towels, tea, coffee etc. dinner in hotel and breakfast were amazing. Will be back!
My husband and I love to visit The Anchor for a meal. We decided to book an overnight stay for my birthday and wasn’t disappointed. We were greeted with a very friendly and warm welcome and shown to our room. The room was small but lovely. It was very clean and had everything we needed. The bed was very comfortable. Our meal was delicious and service was excellent. We opted for breakfast and it too, was delicious. Plenty on offer and the lady that served us was lovely and friendly. We would definitely stay here again and will recommend it to everyone.
Great little hotel. Small rooms, but the food and service more than compensates and the location by the harbour is very pleasant. Easy parking along the quayside
It is such a lovely location with very friendly staff and such good food. Sea walks, harbour seats, Hidden Treasure take away coffee and cakes, Lobster Rolls and all sorts of things…wonderful! A bonus was a visit from Prince Charles to the Lobster Shop and the Johnshaven businesses. Those children will remember the day I bet!
Lovely hosts. Brilliant food. Very reasonable prices for pet friendly. They made us feel so welcome. In these trying times with covid 19 this hotel deserves a medal.

Lovely pub and hotel near lots of great walks
Lovely stopover in a small village - friendly staff and clean, comfy rooms. Fantastic breakfast too.
Look forward to coming back another time. So close to many places worth visiting so a great location, and implemented good COVID procedures.
Oh Ship! Never want to float away from this Anchor
This is a hidden gem of a place, a little loath to share just how fantastic this place is!
The accommodation was everything we needed for an overnight stay but would service well for a weeks stay. Quaintly located in the quietest spot at the top of a lane. Kitchen well stocked with essentials including a washing machine. Delightful view over the harbour when you open the bedroom curtains made my morning so much brighter.
We booked this overnight accommodation so we could both enjoy a glass or three of wine with dinner at the adjacent restaurant. A little indulgent but SO worth while.
The dinner was absolutely fabulous, steak, prawns and scallops all cooked to perfection the accompanying sauté potato stack made my mouth water.
The staff were all super friendly and gave us a very warm welcome.
All in all, I highly recommend The Anchor for both food, great atmosphere and accommodation. We will certainly be back.
All staff very friendly and welcoming. Room cleanliness and condition okay but room was a bit small, with no wardrobe to hang clothes and shower cubicle small. Food and drink excellent.
We stayed in a lovely self-catering cottage which was immaculate, really cosy and had a superbly comfortable bed. The kitchen was fully equipped and had everything we needed. The wetroom was spotless and filled with lots of fluffy towels. It felt like a little home from home. We would have no hesitations booking here again if we needed to stay in the area.

Friendly warm clean and great value. Perfect location . Quite old fishing village
This hotel needs a make over. We booked a double room which wasn't very big - no wardrobe, no chair. It was stated there would be toiletries but all that was there liquid handwash soap in the smallest sink ever seen
Quaint little hotel in a small village was perfect for our stay between St. Andrew's and Aberdeen. The staff were friendly and accommodating. We enjoyed the food and atmosphere in the bar area downstairs. Caught a splendid sunrise off the North Sea in the morning on our way out.
