The continental breakfast should have offered more. There were about ten mini croissants out and there where many people staying there. It was awkward to eat since you didn't want to take two and leave the others without any. The bowl of fruit could have had more. Usually a bed and breakfast offers more options even when it is a continental breakfast.

Thank you for your review. We offer 5-6 different types of pastries that are baked in house consistently throughout the morning. Most guests don't have more than 10 pastries per person which would be a lot. Please see our other reviews regarding our simple yet high quality light continental breakfast offered daily.
We had such a nice time staying here! The inn was lovely, and the room was great - and in the perfect location to be able to walk around and explore Newport. Would recommend the Marshall Slocum Inn to anyone looking for a charming, quiet and convenient place to stay in Newport!

Thank you, we enjoy our quiet neighborhood as well.
Some B&B-style Inns can come with unwanted social obligations--with the proprietors and other guests. And while all were very friendly, there wasn't that awkward "and-now-all-these-strangers-will-be-part-of-our-romantic-anniversary-getaway" vibe. Comfy bed, clean room, accessible staff, beautiful property... an all-around win!

Thank you for your great review Ryan, we enjoyed having you at the hotel.
Location is great, very walkable neighborhood close to parks and restaurants. I didn't read the fine print & thought breakfast was included, but the continental breakfast is charged per item. I've never stayed in an inn that charged like this.

Thank you for your review. We are a boutique hotel as our listing clearly describes. We have breakfast, snacks, sweet items, and beverages available for purchase 24 hours a day.
A very comfortable sleep. It was an easy walk to the Cliff Walk and wharf area. The host was helpful with suggestions and provided a light fresh breakfast for a cost. Coffee and a cute candy bar snack available for free every day. They had a parking area behind the house so we didn’t have to park on the street

Thank you for your review. We are glad you enjoyed our boutique hotel and location. See you next time!
Our room was clean, comfy and outstanding. An old inn charm with updated amenities. We couldn't have asked for a better experience. We are definitely coming back. Everything is within walking distance whether it was the Cliff Walk, the Tennis HOF or the wharfs of Thames St. A experience. So many great restauranrs and shopping options and...oh yeah...the history of Newport!!!
Great little place to stay We booked the cheap room and the only disadvantage was the spiral stairs leading to the bathroom.
Everything else was fine

Thank you for your review. All guests who book this room are advised immediately after booking that they need to be able to navigate stairs. Guest paid 130 for this room in May.
Easy 15 min. walk to waterfront - good location - nice antique themed furnishings - free parking.

Thank you for your review. We are proud of our product and the value we provide at a mid range price. This guest paid 135 for a deluxe king bed which is below the average rate in Newport during April.
Great stay, very reasonable price for an Inn of this quality. Onsite parking and free candy bar were a plus. Easy walk to restaurants, mansions and Cliff walk. Would stay again.

Our staff is available from 7am-6pm, we also have a concierge service where guests can text questions and needs 24 hours a day.
Just a very nice Inn. The room was clean and comfortable. The bathroom updated with plenty of towels. The owners are so friendly and eager to help. I had a wonderful stay and will always look to stay there first the next visit to Newport.
Really enjoyed our stay at The Marshall Slocum Inn. The house was charming and clean with a peaceful back deck that is perfect for coffee in the morning/cocktails in the evening. Our room was very nice. Location is walkable to town. The owners are very personable and helpful. We will definately be back!
Had a great stay here over Fourth of July weekend. The room was very comfortable and clean. The inn has great outdoor space, plenty of parking, and a short walk to many great restaurants. I'd stay here again on a return trip to Newport
My husband and I cannot say enough great things about this inn! It was newly renovated, spotless, spacious, had tons of parking and cool extras (a complementary candy bar!), delicious coffee, and was smack dab in the middle of everything! We would stay here again in a heartbeat!

Thank you for your kind review, we look forward to seeing you again.
Guest smoked in room and when we advised that a cleaning fee would apply they started to use abusive language towards our staff. We have banned this guest from our property.
Very poor value for theondy, small cramped bathroom, poor bedding clean monetheless

Guest paid $150 for our economy room which is very reasonable. The listing and pictures show the size of this room and our bedding is 100% white cotton. This guest stole items from our room and our small cafe. When we inquired with them they denied everything even though we had proof of them on camera in the cafe stealing alcohol. We would not welcome this guest back.
This is a charming Inn. The "apartment" room was very nice with a comfortable bed. If you happen to have any mobility issues, make sure to call the hotel direct to find out if the room you are booking will work for you.

Thank you for your review. This guest had mobility issues but did not contact us after booking to inquire about accessibility. While we do have ground floor rooms we are not certified accessible as we are an historic property. The guest only stayed one night and we assisted with luggage.
Very comfortable, clean and quiet. Great water pressure and Wi-Fi. Good location.

Disliked: Staff & service
There was no staff around.
The wardrobe was very flimsy; made to look old,
an umbrella, provided inside the room, exploded when we tried to open it
the bed was much too big -and very high--for the room
it was clean

Staff is available 24 hours a day and the front desk is occupied between 6:30am-8:00pm. The wardrobe needed fixing which we did immediately after they checked out. We provided the guest with another umbrella. Cleanliness is of utmost importance to us which is ironic as the guest left take out food all over the bed out of the container and spilled wine all over the linens.
