very convienient location and kind staff. lockers were quite small and the room smelled a bit. 10 minute transit to Kyoto was very convenient and the price was excellent.
Nice place. Bare bones and you get what you Kay for. Staff is really nice and helpful. You should speak some Japanese.

Unfortunately the pod I stayed in did not appear to be terribly clean as there had been quite a few large stickers that had been peeled off the walls but not cleaned off properly.
There was a good supply of linen. Lockers were too small so main backs were kept in the common room so suggest bring padlocks for bags.
Unfortunately the common area appeared dusty and dirty and overall felt unwelcoming. The hotel restaurant staff were running the capsule hotel so general reception area was an after thought. So the experience was functional overall but not hospitable.
I’ve been to many capsules across Japan and my stay here was at the too. Yes, I’ve stayed in Kyoto, Osaka, but wanted to spend a few days in Ōtsu and experience a slower pace and so glad I did! The reviews on Google and Orbitz rated The Calendar high so I gave it a try and I was not disappointed. However, I do need to mention if you are sensitive to smell you might notice the slight scent of smoke. The entire capsule is non-smoking, however there is a smoking room, that when smokers return it might linger with them. To me, I only noticed the first hour at check-in and after that I didn’t notice anything.
The good? How about everything else! No elevator so if you have two luggage you might need to make two trips, but the steps you are greeted by a very popular Italian restaurant which is part of the hotel. The staff is friendly, professional and will make your stay pleasant. The bed is somewhat on the thin side and pillow non-existent, but overall I had no issues falling asleep. In your capsule you do have a TV but good luck finding anything with subtitles lol. The bathrooms and showers are modern and clean, The common area very spacious and relaxed. The bonus is it’s at the entrance/exit of the JR train station! Biwa Lake a 10-minute walk away. So if in Ōtsu looking to get away from the crowds I highly suggest a stay at The Calendar. I stayed for two nights and felt recharged going back to Osaka. 10-stars! Arigatō!
This was my first time trying a capsule hotel and it increased my expectations for all capsule hotels. Everything about this hotel was nice and very convenient.
Awful place to stay. Avoid at all costs. The rooms smell so bad of cigarette smoke it’s nauseating. The pillows are these rock hard tiny things. The toilets were filthy and has mould all over it. It’s cheap yes, but my god it’s not worth it.
The beds were terrible. The pillows were not much better. Every time you moved in the bed the entire capsule creaked. The mattress was paper thin but everything else was great
