"This Kyoto hostel completely overturned my impression of local accommodations being typically cramped. Very clean and comfortable. "Staff was nice. The rooms were the smallest of all our trip (4 different cities) and there was no access to the other side of the bed, so one of us had to hop over the other to lie down. The bathroom was also ridiculously small (the tub was exactly 36 inches lengthwise - challenging for my 6’4” husband) and to use the toilet we had to sit sideways to fit our legs. We were also disappointed by the pillows (they looked and felt like dish sponges, mesh and everything), and despite having two guests in the reservation, they left one of each item for us (one bath towel, one face towel, one water, etc.). When we asked for more water, we were told to go to the 7-Eleven next door. Finally, we couldn’t control the AC, there are instructions to “turn it off” if hou don’t like it. Overall, we can’t recommend this hotel."

"Location: Excellent. This property is located in the main train station which allowed for easy access to all trains, including Shinkansen and the underground. Yet very quiet. Shopping and restaurants all within walking. Hotel: Wonderful. Had everything required and I stayed 7 nights. Only issue is that the gym is not included. Staff: Wonderful and helpful. Room: Very nice and spacious. I recommend this hotel and would certainly stay here again!"

Onyado Nono Kyotoshichijo Natural Hot Springs

"The first room I was given immediately exuded smelly BO, but I thought it was not aired properly so I turned on air, was so tired, just went to sleep. Although I was exhausted, I kept waking up to whiffs of stinky BO, such that after waking up and nodding back to sleep I could stand it no longer, got up at 2am (02:00), packed up my stuff and went to the lobby for a room change. I want to note that when I first pulled back the comforter, I saw a strand of hair, but didn’t have the energy to deal with it. Upon informing the staff, there was no concern of the quality and no apologies offered. The only thing she was concerned with was whether I left anything in the room. I was made to wait for 10-15 minutes before she and another staff came out to work on the room change. She accompanied me to the new assigned room, which turned out to be one with wheelchair access. Naturally being wheelchair accessible the bedroom floor was marked. The bathroom floor was not dirty but also not spotless. Again I was exhausted, walked into a clean smelling warm bedroom and nodded approval as all I wanted to do was get some rest. With checking in and out automated to a degree, it felt very cold and the word “hospitality « was lacking. The exception was the ladies who handled my luggage. They were very warm and helpful. On the positive side, I really enjoyed the various onsen baths, the amenities such as hairbrush, hair bands and skincare. Love the ice cream. Didnt try the ramen but its a nice touc"
