“Great”

“The hotel is built on a hill, space is not wide but well designed. Room is nice, but sometimes the smell from the bath room spread into the bed room. Hotel location is good, only 4 minutes can reach the beach. The worst drawback is the breakfast, selection is very poor .”

“A lovely backwater stay. Beautiful grounds. We really enjoyed the boat ride. The restaurant was the only disappointment. Despite repeated communication that one person did not want hot food and assurances that they would alter the food, it was still too spicy hot to eat.”

“the location is amazing ...overlooking the sea with access to wide open beaches and no people - a big contrast to Verkala north cliff beach. The place was clean , modern and the staff went out of their way to assist us with adapters, taxis, etc... The food was excellent though a bit overpriced. I would love to visit again !”

“We were a honeymoon couple and we were not given the category of room which we had asked for and booked for- floating room. Whilst booking we had called the hotel that we particularly want the floating room when booked with expedia but not given. Even the staff is lousy. Expedia staff kept calling the hotel but the night Reception staff kept hanging their phone without answering and finally kept the phone aside.spoiled our honeymoon plans. ”

“Room rates are high for the quality of amenities provided and overall services. There's no room service, the on site cafe uses concentrates for all beverages, and some of these containers are not even close to being stored hygienically. The staff are ok but service is slow if you want extra towels etc. The view from the room is 10/10, waking upto a beautiful sunrise is serene. Access to the beach is easy and tedious at the same time. Overall we did have a good time.”

“Not worth the almost $80 a night charge for a room that's old and mouldy with no air conditioning in the heat of Kerala. Much better options available elsewhere in this town for the same price and even less where you can find better conditions with professional and courteous staff.”

“Water was not coming in the flush when checked in. It was rectified within half hour. Said that tank was empty. Okey, but early in the morning, the situation was same. Just imagine flush not working early in the morning, and not having a bucket or things like that. Secondly, even after rectification water was dripping just outside the washroom. Such things usually happen in cheap hotels. Sorry to mention these.”

“The reception staff was very friendly. However the room was a disappointment. There was not toilet paper, the sheets were dirty and stained. I had to use a towel on the bottom sheet and slept in my clothes. I booked for two nights and stayed one night and checked out. The location was nice very close to the beach and local restaurants. I would not recommend staying here. ”

“Really sweet spot just off the beach up a commerce alley. Jishnu the host was very nice and helpful with getting comfortable. Hot shower if you want it - but I’ve learned to love taking cold showers here - and the bathroom was perfectly clean and well appointed. I will be back here at the Gypsy next year for sure.”

“Generally I enjoyed my stay at the hotel. The staff was very pleasant, the restaurant was fine, and the hotel was near a number of interesting sites. However, the hotel could benefit from a few minor but noticeable signs of aging. My recommendation to the hotel is to replace the hall carpet and elevator flooring, repaint the room walls, and reseal and paint the lobby roof, which is on display when taking the elevator. Also please, drop the elevator music, or replace it once in a while.”

“A nice break from a very busy Varkala. Best if you have transportation. The natural setting is calm, and it's worth exploring the beach across the waterway, accessible via kayak or 2km walk.”
