Great Stay

Peaceful weekend retreat
This house had everything my family and friends needed to decompress after a rough 2023. There is more than ample space for the amount of guests allowed in the house and around the property. The access to the beach is a bit challenging but as the listing states, it can be accessed from the local park. What my family liked best was it was nice and quiet. There was minimal traffic and a couple times we heard a train go by. Other than that, it was very quiet. There is no cable just a dvd and movies. There is a digital antenee and depending on the weather, you can get local channels to come in. Dianne the homeowner was fantastic to deal with. Any questions were dealt with promptly. This house will be kept as a favorite to stay at. The house is ideally located for mostly dry wine in ohio and a varied selection in north east.

Eclipse getaway at the Cottage on Lake Erie
We had a wonderful getaway at the Cottage on Lake Erie. Being able to watch the solar eclipse in the Path of Totality was an amazing experience, and we are so grateful we were able to do so!! Communication with the owner was great from the time of booking, including a couple times during our stay. We checked into a clean, cozy, well-stocked home. The view off the deck in early April is great! There is a clear pathway leading to steps that take you down to the lake. There are more than enough outdoor chairs for 6 guests. There is a fire pit at the top of the hill behind the house, and a place to make fires on the beach. I recommend doing so while watching one of Erie's beautiful sunsets! You can walk to Raccoon Park next door, which has a nice playground, pavilions and beach area. Although we woke to no power the first morning, the owner was wonderful. She contacted the power company for us and found out it was an outtage due to an accident. We hopped in the car and headed to Conneaut, OH for breakfast at Angela's Cafe. The Mess is delicious! Conneaut Twp. Park's beach is great for beachcombers, being known for its cobalt blue beach glass. We visited nearby Twisted Elk Brewery, Peggy Gray Candies, Grandpa Pizzi's Place and JT's Bagels...all delicious. And of course, the solar eclipse was amazing, complete with cheers from the park next door. We had a wonderful time and intend to return!

Cabin on Lake Erie
The cabin was a little outdated and I would not recommend it for families with small children. Probably much better for parties in the summer it was very dreary during our stay. There is a lot of paperwork you will be required to fill out not through the VRBO app to stay here.

For anyone reading this review - PLEASE read between the lines. Read all of our NUMEROUS 5 STAR reviews. This guest initially sent paperwork signed by someone other than the renter. We do not accept same. We do not charge a cleaning fee as most do, which is usually $150-200. Our Rental Agreement clearly points out what you can expect from us, and what we expect of you. The terms of our agreement were not met. There were damages to the property we did not charge for. There was a dog at the premises, which is forbidden. We only charged $25 extra for the lack of cleaning. We can provide numerous referrals from wonderful guests with children that have rented repeatedly 5-7 years in a row, and continue to do so. Sorry the weather was not to your liking during your stay.

Just What We Needed
We had a pleasant weekend at the cottage on Lake Erie. The interior was clean, the kitchen was well-equipped, and the beds were comfortable. If you open the windows, the sound of the waves hitting the shore will lull you to sleep. We had clear skies Saturday night and the back deck was the perfect place to star gaze. As someone who frequently wakes up during the night, I especially appreciated the multiple night lights in the hall and bathroom.

Invigorating yet Restful
This cottage is a lift for your spirits and a balm for your stress. My wife and I stayed here with two other family members recently. Even though off-season, we found our stay to be even more pleasing than we had expected. The interior is beautiful, with many fine-tuned touches and accents. The spacious back deck is perfect for entertaining or using the gas grill. The spacious green lawn and wooded areas are also beautiful. The woods and path down to the private beach are also quite pleasing. Communication with the owners was just right for our needs. Stay here! You will be glad you did. You will want to return, as we do.

A Wonderful Cottage!
Cottage on Lake Erie was exactly what my wife and I needed after being apart for several months due to family health matters. The location was serene, with a wonderful view of Lake Erie from the kitchen and back porch. Access to the beach was just a short 2 min walk down a trail to view the gorgeous sunsets in the evening. We couldn't have asked for anything better. Will definitely return for a longer stay in the future.

Amazing Cottage
We came out to fish. In the past, we’ve stayed at motels. We took a chance on a VRBO and were totally impressed. The proximity to the lake was inspiring. For a similar rate at a motel, we got a whole house on the lake. Having the kitchen saved us on dining out. We may be hooked on VRBO!

Perfect Lake house getaway
This place was beautiful. Minutes from Ohio , presque isle and everything in between. Very quiet location right next door to raccoon park. Fire ring overlooks lake Erie , unfortunately due to non stop rain we were not able to use it but definitely will try to book this location again.

Relaxing getaway
The pictures do not do this lovely cottage justice! It has a beautiful lake view, nearby park and close to local fishing hot spots. The cottage was the cleanest rental I have ever stayed in. The owners were helpful with anything I needed. We will stay here again!

Quiet retreat right on the lake
The cottage was perfect for our girls' weekend! So clean and relaxing, an absolutely wonderful rental. Didn't get to do as much hiking as we had hoped due to inclement weather, but watching the storm over the lake was breathtaking. Communication with the owner was easy and immediate. She let us know upfront that there was an inaccuracy on the listing (no hot tub) that she had been trying to get corrected. It wasn't a deal breaker, but I appreciated the transparency. Would definitely rent again and recommend to friends.

I CHOSE THE COTTAGE BECAUSE IT WAS CENTRALLY LOCATED BETWEEN OUR FAMILY MEMBERS. I WAS WELL AWARE OF THE AMENITIES AS THEY WERE COMPLETELY SPELLED OUT IN ADVANCE. Historical Cottage near Conneaut
The property is well maintained and managed! Beautiful view of Lake Erie and just a short drive to Conneaut Township Beach/Park. There’s a few great restaurants to check out near Conneaut. Plus this is a great area to find beach glass! We really enjoyed our stay!!

A nice retreat
This property is well off the beaten path so if you are looking for some time away from the hustle and bustle, you have found it. Everything was very clean and the kitchen had many items that are usually spare at other rentals. The steps to the private beach are steep (as has been indicated) so we drove down each night to Raccoon Park to watch the beautiful sunsets. We appreciated the communication with the owners via Facebook and in email prior to our arrival. I would, without fail, recommend this property to others seeking a get away in the Erie vicinity.

Presque Isle girls retreat
The house is a perfectly appointed cottage, very adorable. The back porch is nice but hard to see the lake due to all the trees. Its also not an easy walk down the hill/cliff to the lake. Cant swim there too much debris and rocky. The communication was good with the owners who gave great suggestions on where we could go with children. However there were a lot of restrictions such as couldnt use the many stacks of firewood; couldnt use the fireplace. The clean up requirements were a bit much: sweep the floor; clean up any spills; vacuum the carpet; take out the trash; wipe down the countertops in kitchen; wipe up shelves in the refrigerator; and clean the sink mirror and countertop in the bathroom. Also if you have a problem with stairs there are a lot and the only bathroom and all the bedrooms are on the second floor.

We are so sorry our property disappointed you. We provide many photos of the property reflecting exactly what our view is to the lake - a cut in the woods, so you still have privacy. Our Rental Agreement spells out what to expect from the property/us, and what we expect of you. We outline that the path to the lake may be steep for some, and we also outline that the beach can change from day to day, storm to storm. We have no control of the trees/driftwood or other debris on the beach. We also point out in our Rental Agreement that you should expect a rocky beach, and we highly recommend footwear due to same. Your reservation was confusing as you reserved but had another person submit on behalf of the Rental Agreement. I advised we do no do 3rd party rentals, and I received a signed Rental Agreement from you, indicating you had read and agreed to our Rental Agreement. Not sure where you came up with couldn't use the fireplace - the Rental Agreement includes instructions on how to use the fireplace (which has a broken damper) and advises that you will need to bring OWN firewood. As for the stacks of wood around the property, it is being seasoned to cut for future firewood. We used to supply firewood, but unfortunately, too many took advantage. Besides using way too much wood, we were worried about those building large fires in the fireplace and causing a fire in the home. The cottage is the last remaining historical property of the Elmwood Home for Boys circa 1912. All of the other parcels of the property have BURNT down over the years. We made a decision long ago to discontinue providing firewood. Please note, we do not charge a cleaning fee (most VRBO properties charge $150-$200). Since 2008, we work on a leave it as you found it system. If you spill something, please clean it up. The home has many pictures on both VRBO and other social media sites. The photos show that the first floor is kitchen/dining/living room, and bedrooms and bathroom is upstairs.

Great location and experience
This home and property is a diamond in this area. Away from the hustle and bustle and a perfect place to enjoy Lake Erie and nature, but not too far from activities. Richard and Dianne were great throughout the process and even called to make sure we had everything we needed. Highly recommend!

Perfect Getaway
This was a perfect spot to get away for a long weekend over the Thanksgiving holiday. Dianne was an extremely helpful, warm, and welcoming person to work with; the hosts have an obvious love for what they do! The home is very clean, well-kept, and inviting. Ladybugs for days!
The house was as cute as a button, it was clean and fairly well stocked with almost anything that you could need to cook and eat with. Although the Keurig stopped working the owner was prompt about contacting me about the issue once I brought the issue to their attention. One thing to note is that the path to the water is high and steep, while not impassable if you have a fear of heights or have trouble with walking it is better to go to racoon park that is down the road approximately 100 ft or so. Something to note there were a lot of ladybugs. While they didn't really come into the house all that much, there were a ton of them. The double deck has some amazing views and the sound of the lake after a storm was relaxing. The fall views were gorgeous, and the leaves just add to the cozy and quiet nature of the house. The fireplace in the house works well, as does the heating in the house.

That time of year is gorgeous, but infamous for the Asian Lady Bugs coming out. They love to soak up the sun on the west side of the house. Glad they weren't a bother.

Family Vacation
We had a wonderful stay! The area is perfect for getting away and having quality time with family! We spent everyday at Raccoon Park which was a perfect little beach for little kids. We forgot our beach toys but they had tons of toys in the basement!! My 4 and 7 year old loved walking down to the private beach. It was so peaceful! The house was very clean!

This house has everything you need and is in a private location that is not far from Presque Isle, Geneva On The Lake, Walnut Beach, Erie Zoo, etc. plenty of things to do nearby with a beautiful drive along the lake. The access to the beach on the property is steep but not a bad walk with the steps and railing added. We spent an afternoon playing in the sand and along the shore in the waves with our 6 and 3-year-old boys. Beautiful sunsets too! You can see and hear the lake from the house which never gets old. The owners made sure we were checked in ok and had what we needed. plenty of towels for your stay as well. The A/C works very well too when needed!

Relax and Refresh
This is a very nice clean restored old house in a primo location. It’s out in the country on the lake and very quiet. The hosts are awesome!

Great sister weekend!
Lovely cottage in a location that offers privacy with a beautiful view and serene setting but also an easy drive to many attractions. The owners were very friendly and attentive. We all talked about bringing our individual families back because our husbands and kids would love it there too. Spacious and very relaxing!

Perfect quaint cottage on lake

Lovely Winter Getaway
Our stay was absolutely wonderful! Arrived and everything was beautiful and snow-covered. We absolutely adored using the fireplace on those cold winter nights, and just loved the private location of the house with access to the beach. Ice-covered Erie was lovely.

Thank you, Rikki! Winter is actually my favorite time at the cottage! Since all the leaves are down, you have a panoramic view of the lake! A fire makes for a nice cozy night!
