This beautiful room could not have been more perfect for our visit to Amsterdam. Clean, comfortable and filled with old world charm. The location was central to everything and our host went out of his way to make sure we had all we needed. Would absolutely stay again. Thank you Evert!
Our stay at the Canal House was just what we had envisioned!! Perfectly located near everything that we wanted to see and do and the accommodations were perfect; quiet, clean, and comfortable!!Evert was a great host there if we needed anything but did not try to be part of our experience. The only challenging thing is the stairs to the 2nd floor apartment, alone they are fine with luggage it is a test of strength and balance, but the trip up is more than worth the effort.
Great location and short walking distance to Central Station. Evert was very helpful with any questions. He provided ample supplies to make our stay a wonderful experience.
We had a wonderful stay.
The location was very central and convenient.
Evert greeted us on arrival, carried our heavy bags up the winding staircase, explained the area and the town to us, and provided us with ample supplies of coffee, tea, juice and a number of “goodies”.
We left early in the morning but Evert was there again to carry our bags down and say good-bye.
A great host.
We had a wonderful time and found the place to be a remarkable alternative to a traditional hotel room. Felt a bit like stepping back in time. Loads of books and comfortable seating. Perfect location to experience Amsterdam and we felt welcomed and well taken care of. Will be back for sure.
The studio is exactly as pictured and very comfortable. Evert is an excellent host; welcoming, very responsive and eager to help. The stairs are historic but have rails on both sides and we received assistance with our luggage. Coffee, tea, other beverages and some tasty cookies were provided - an extension of Evert's hospitality. There are lots of cafes within walking distance, as is the train station, Anne Frank house and canal tours. We loved our 3 night stay!
The location was good. The space was well appointed and very clean. Bathroom well stocked with everything you might need. Coffee and tea with many selections. Lots of clean towels. The owner was lovely and very helpful. Helped us with our luggage and phoned for a cab to the airport for us. Highly recommend staying at the Classy Room 17th Century Canal House. Delightful!
My wife and I had a terrific stay in Evert’s apartment. In a 3 story building on the second floor of a 400 year old historic property right on the canals close to the train station, Dam Square, and Jordaan. Great restaurants close by. Evert was the perfect host. Had everything you need from shampoo to tour books to adapters for plugs. . Only difficulty would be if someone has issues with stairs. The spiral staircase from the entrance floor is the charm of the building and was really cool, but could pose issues to someone that has issues with stairs. One of the coolest places we have ever stayed.
We loved our time Amsterdam, and enjoyed the central location of this beautifual canal house. You feel like you are staying in a piece of Dutch history in this hisotric home. The warnings about the steep, spiral staircase are well justified and would not be appropirate for anyone with any mobility issues. We went in March during a quiet time of year -- I imagine it might be loud in the summer months with a lot more avtivity going on outside. The location is very central -- 5 minute walk from the train and right on a beautiful canal. The owner Everet is lovely (as are the two cats) and you feel like you are guest in someone's home. The apartment comes stocked with complimentarry drinks, cookies and chocolates. Very thoughtful!
Our stay was wonderful. The room was really spacious, comfortable and loaded with historic charm. We had everything we needed. The host lives on site. He was available but we had all the privacy we needed. The one glitch is that the front of the house was being re-finished and the project was delayed. We got a notified a week prior to our date that the building was shrouded in scalfold. Unfortunate indeed, but it was the contractor at fault not the owner. The rental agency and owner were quite understanding and gracious in a difficult situation. It worked out. I would highly recommend this property.
My son and I had a lovely stay in the canal house. Centrally located, it was an excellent base to explore everything Amsterdam has to offer. We were able to walk to most of the places we wanted to go. Central Station was a 5-10 minute walk away.
The room was VERY well equipped and had many thoughtful touches, including numerous guidebooks, plenty of dishes and the fridge even contained a few local beers and cheeses. It is exactly as pictured and provided plenty of room. The water pressure was excellent as well. The room does face the street (and has a lovely canal view) but we didn't have any issues with noise. We also didn't find the stairs to be too much of a challenge but they are, as advertised, steep.
I would highly recommend the 17th century canal room to anyone visiting Amsterdam.
We had a wonderful stay at Evert's handsome, well-located flat. He could not have been more helpful and was easy to communicate with.
The unit is on the first floor (which in America would be called the second floor) and there is a very, very steep set of stairs to climb. I had back surgery a few years ago, so at first I was a bit taken aback, but we got used to the stairs and managed fine. If you have physical limitations, you should take this into account.
Evert has impeccable taste. The overall feel of the place is more eclectic chic rather than elegant, but it's a great suite. All the amenities--coffee, tea, mini-fridge, etc, are provided. The bed/linens are also top-notch.
This property is just as pictured. Lovely old house with scary OMG steep, narrow, dark, and winding stairs. The stairs (which are mentioned in the rental) and the lock up and get out process are the only negatives. Evert our host was delightful and so helpful. He allowed us a early check in on our arrival day which was much appreciated. Bright and comfortable room. Plenty of extra towels and linens. Fans and screens for windows. Coffee, tea, juice, and biscuits also provided.
We found the neighborhood to be quiet and central to so much. The Central train station a 10 minute walk. Anne Frank House about 20 minutes. Lots of restaurants and quaint bars. You are on the fringes of the Red Light District so expect some interesting “window shopping “ in the area around the rental.
This lovely apartment in a vintage canal house was comfortable, clean and remarkably quiet for being right on the innermost canal in Amsterdam. Evert, the owner, was more than accommodating, hospitable and communicative...we even had some lengthy chats about music. He also had GREAT recommendations for restaurants which we sampled and thoroughly enjoyed. The apartment was well located for an easy walk to some sites, or to the tram line for easy rides to most other parts of the city. Everything about the apartment was as pictured/described, including the VERY steep steps. But for that Evert helped carry our luggage to our room. The room was also wonderfully stocked with linens, towels and a refrigerator full of Dutch beer and chocolate bars! There were, however, occasional mysterious thumps during the night outside our door that turned out to be the resident pair of well-loved cats having the "zoomies." We loved our stay here for many reasons and would definitely do it again.
Absolutely lovely. Evert has thought of everything. Room is equipped with all essentials and more. It’s super clean and such a great location. We were sad to leave. 10/10 recommend.
We were extremely happy with our stay here! Everything was just as described! Check in was easy, host was welcoming and kind. Room was clean and spacious with beautiful views! Location was great - within walking distance of the train and plenty of things to do!
Would highly recommend and would love to stay again someday!
This room is spacious, beautiful and peaceful. It’s perfectly situated to enjoy the Jordaan neighborhood of Amsterdam. The host is kind and responsive. There is a steep winding staircase with small steps to get to it that will be an impediment to some potential users. My daughter and I LOVED it.
