Stopped in Aviemore for one night while heading north. Check in swift and clear, room clean. Breakfast was spot on, food perfectly acceptable and the waiting staff were all busy and helpful.
My son and I were due to stay in the Strathspey building but were moved to another building, the name of which escapes me, but was the building nearest the supermarket on the main road. There were only two negatives whilst in room 3206: it was near the main door for the corridor and each time the main door was opended, it created a vacuum and caused the room door to move. making a banging sound. Thus the room door would bang each time another guest used the main door, which disturbed sleep. The room was opposite the store for linen and other materials, so this was also a source of noise and disturbance. The TV in the room did not have a useful signal either. Had my son and I been staying longer, I would have requested a move to another room. Apart from that, the staff of the Hotel were very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable. The facilities including the swimming pool were very good, apart from the wave machine not working, which my son was dissapointed about. And the location of the hotel lends itself very well to accessing the services offered by Aviemore. So I would stay at Macdonalds Hotel Aviemore again, but I would make sure the room was not disturbed by noise.
Was upgraded to the Highlands 4 star, great hotel.

4 Star Hotel 4 Star Price Two Star facilities
Four star hotel Four star prices Two star facilities and service.
Rooms nowhere near as plush as Thistle and other chains which are considerably cheaper.
Pool sauna etc ok. Bar service and food outlets poor. Buffet closes 8pm and the one bar available a long walk in the cold and wet over the other side of the compound in another building.
Plenty of good restaurants in village though and much better quality.
Rooms dated and beds awfully uncomfortable, Travelodges at £29 have super comfy beds.
TV - a few misty channels on old tv set.
Enjoyed the stay, Breakfasts very good and staff friendly and helpful.
Advise you get a good deal before going and don't pay top whack cos not good value, - but for the right price quite acceptable.

Great place to stay in aviemore
Fantastic value for money.
This hotel was obviously dated when it came to decor but it was comfortable all the same.
The kids loved the pool and the soft play.
No staff at reception desk on arrival but a notice with a number to call in the other building. No answer so spent 5/10 mins trying to find the other building to check in. Very poor service.
Unfortunately I was very disappointed, as hotel very dated and in need of complete refurnishment.
There was no bar facilities, its just an annex to the Highland hotel.
The price most certainly did not reflect on the hotel, unfortunately we were so disappointed we asked to be moved as this was planned a special weekend.
I will say that after we voiced our disappointment we were moved within an hour, to the highland Hotel (with more cost)
Extremely disappointed with the hotel as it did not come close to the way it was advertised. Hotel was very tired and run down. Arrived early evening to be told the restaurant and bar were not open and the only facilities was in one of the adjacent hotels on the complex. This was totally unacceptable and I would have expected what I consider basic facilities within a hotel especially at the rates they charged. I ended up walking up and down Aviemore with my son trying to find a restaurant that wasn't already fully booked. The room was tired, smelled of damp and located immediately adjacent to the lifts resulting in us being kept awake most of the night with late nighters falling out of the lifts and into their rooms.
I do not normally give reviews but in this particular case I wanted you to know how appalled I was. Having spent two days in the hills I was hoping to spend a relaxing night in a hotel, eat a decent meal and get some rest. This hotel failed on all counts. Macdonald Hotels should be ashamed of themselves.

great hotel for location and skiing
just back from 3 nights stay. Hotel in a great location for skiing and visiting Aviemore. A few things in hotel could do with updating decor etc. The room was clean and bed very comfortable. Great tasty breakfast with plenty to choose from and the staff were extremely attentive
the hotel was not as described or have the facilities, we felt that the cost for such a poor hotel was far too high, the entire building needs knocked down and the management given training on how to deal with CUSTOMERS
We met up for a family reunion. Cant fault the rooms but we were all really disappointed with the dining room. A number of us ordered steaks and they were stone cold when we they arrived. Just did not complain as we were all really hungry. We also had booked dinner for ten only to be told they didn't have the reservation. My husband and i were at the Inschyra in Falkirk the week before and were so impressed with everything. Would not book dinner again at the Highland hotel.
we were having a large family gathering found the hotel really good , only issue was the lack of variety on your menu , at dinner , if we hadn't booked we would not have stayed we were all really disappointed also with the service at dinner , and at £35 a head and £9 extra for a slither of steak , what a difference at breakfast it was fantastic great service and great food ,

Aviemore stay
In overall was alright but had 2 very disappointing situations. We went to Aviemore interested in snowing so at the first night of our stay around 9pm we went to the desk to gather some information regarding their ski shop and also about the ski conditions at the Cairngorm but the receptionist aswered us that he had no idea and he doesn't even like snow. Second issue was with the room service, we had requested a bucket of ice and after started use the ice we found one cotton swab inside the bucket. Have to say that in overall the hotel is good, the day receptionist was very friendly. Room clean but small.
