"The check in was a bit problimatic as the afternoon we checked in the hotel was joining the Hilton group so therefore were being transferred over to the new system.The cards we were given did not open the door to the street or inner room door, Was sorted out by the staff as soon as we informed them. "Really lovely stay at The Grand - hotel room is spacious, clean and comfortable and added touch of chocolates/anniversary card. We did receive our Expedia VIP benefit of £20 food/wine credit but actually didn't realise we had so would have been good for this to be noted. We also enjoyed the spa in the morning and the breakfast (though at £25 , make sure you're hungry). Lovely 1906 bar too with live music. Walkable to York. "

"This is a nice hotel with comfortable modern air-conditioned rooms for travelers. The bathroom was adequate, although we wished for a shower door in addition to a glass partition. The location just on the other side of the river from the older city gave us broad views of the riverfront and the cathedral beyond.
