「Stayed in the 4bed family room with Mountain View. The room was excellent,clean and spacious. The shower/ensuit was clean and modern. Breakfast was included and was superb. The staff made us very welcome and nothing was too much trouble for them. Would certainly recommend and would have no hesitation staying there again. The bar was buzzing and very popular with other hikers.」

「A nice modern hotel. Clean and comfortable on a main road that will allow you to travel out to a bunch of different riding and hiking spots conveniently. Staff were friendly and as mentioned it was lovely and clean. Only recommendation would be to bring some earplugs if you’re a light sleeper and you happen to be in a room looking out on to the road. The windows are thick but seemingly not enough to block out noise from passing vehicles. 」

As locals we are invested in the building, having followed its restoration over the years, not least with considerable financial help from the county and borough councils. 「Staff were excellent. Very helpful. Food good. However, our room, No.3, was shabby, to say the least. Definitely not value for the price. Mould in the shower. Peeling wallpaper. Toilet window unable to open. Dirty carpet. Burnt arm on heated towel rail when bent down to retrieve towel from floor. No warning notice. Double wall socket peeling from wall. Dirty TV remote held together by sellotape. Small TV with poor sound. Photos support my assertions.」
