Not as expected
When I chose a place to stay it has to be bright, well located and gig enough for a long stay. We were there for 5 weeks so I need a well appointed kitchen and comfortable seating area as well as some storage space for clothes. I chose this place because it looked bright on the website pictures. In fact it was terribly dark, no real windows and for the most part looking out on a wall. Although there were 2 bedrooms, only one was usable with a good bed and a built in closet. Room 2 was so small only the bed fit without any closet space. How could 4 people stay there ? The kitchen was also disappointing with a lack of surface space to work on and missing all kinds of equipment. In 5 weeks you cook quite a bit as restaurants are good but not everyday. This kitchen had no microwave, a non functional toaster that the site manager replaced but with a cheap unit that was not really adequate, no salad spinner, a very bad quality corkscrew, pans that were old and not very high quality. Finally the living area was equipped with an old sofa, very hard to sit on, no chairs other than 4 metal ones to be used at the dining table. All very bad. This was our 4th time in Madeira. We always pick a different area of Funchal to stay and the only reason we ended up at Beco Santa Emilia is because the house I had rented last summer was sold by the owner 2 months before our departure. This was a last minute choice and it was far from the best but, Fatima the site manager was very helpful.
