Lovely cosy cottage with gorgeous views.
Lovely cosy cottage with gorgeous views. Owner was really friendly checking we’d settled in ok. Great location (as long as you have car) to get to nearby towns and attractions. Shame there wasn’t a pub within walking distance (as the road was too risky to walk on at night), however, the food and staff at the local pub in Yetholm (approx 1.5mile) were lovely and welcoming and food great! The only criticism I’d have of the cottage is that the bathroom and some decor could do with updating, however this certainly didn’t spoil anything and gave it a quaint country charm! Despite this, I would definitely recommend the cottage and would stay again.

Kelso getaway
Old fashioned stone built cottage. Central heating excellent plus a wood fire. Could do with some sprucing up paint wise. Excellent selection of books, videos, cds and jigsaws. 7 miles from nearest supermarket. Beautiful country views. If you are an animal lover this is for you - chickens, goats, horses, and a loch with plenty of waterfowl.

We stayed at Avenel Cottage for a week with our dog and found it to be located in a very peaceful, beautiful part of the Scottish Borders and very dog friendly. The cottage is ideal for those who love to get way to experience peace and quiet and walk in the countryside.
It is a very good location for visiting historical sites such as Dryburgh Abbey, Melrose, Smailhome Tower, Abbotsford and Kelso. We found the people who live in the area very friendly and welcoming.
We found the cottage to be very comfortable and it has the most spectacular view over the loch. The kitchen was well supplied with utensils well enough to cook meals with no problem and there was plenty cupboard space for us to use. We used the washing machine and tumble dryer (located in a cupboard in the hall). Both being easy to use and effective. The fridge has a small freezer compartment but to make up for this there is a larger freezer in the barn.
The main bedroom was surprisingly big with plenty of wardrobe space. For our part we had a good nights sleep in a very comfortable and clean bed. The view from the bedrooms is spectacular and a pleasure to wake up to.
The bathroom was small but there is a good shower over the bath providing plenty of hot water.
The cottage has a really good heating system and we would not hesitate to book up during the colder months as it would be very warm and cosy especially if the wood burning fire was used.
The garden is enclosed which for us as dog owners is essential. It has a small courtyard leading to a wooded garden with a circular grass path. The garden attracts lots of different birds and butterflies. We enjoyed walking around it in the morning spotting the different species visiting
the garden. We went out into the garden at dusk and saw bats flying around the tree tops. The garden is a little overgrown and would benefit from regular pruning. We used the back door to enter and exit the property.
We definitely enjoyed our holiday at the cottage and hope to book again next year.

A lovely cottage to relax in.
A lovely cottage to relax in. It has a homely atmosphere and was lovely and warm. The kitchen is adequately supplied. The bathroom A little small but clean. A good enclosed garden, though a little over grown but our dogs loved it. To wake up to the beautiful view and see the sun shining on the hills was an added bonus. We hope to return next year.

Enjoyed our stay.
Enjoyed our stay. Suggest the skylight in main room has a blind as in Summer you are awake at 4:30am. I am early riser but not that early.
Surrounding area is beautiful, great for walking and if weather is poor there are attractions to go and visit.

Fantastic mini holiday, lovely and relaxing.
Fantastic mini holiday, lovely and relaxing. It was great looking out the window and seeing Yeholm loch, going into the gorgeous little back garden and meeting all the different animals at the back. Perfect for my young kids. We absolutely loved it. Hopefully we’ll be back x
