This is my second time staying at the Colton Inn on a visit to Monterey. For me, it was important that it's located close to the Middlebury Institute of International Studies, but it's also within walking distance of lots of downtown/Old Monterey locations, including a drug store, Trader Joe's, cafes and restaurants, and the water front. Staff are always extremely helpful, I enjoy the breakfast (love that they have hard boiled eggs!), and always have a great stay here.

The check-in staff was arrogant and sarcastic. She turned us off of the hotel from the minute of check-in. We had a question about breakfast and she sarcastically answered “It is not steak and eggs” and snickered.

We stayed a few days at Colton Inn and overall the stay was pleasant. The door could use a seal around it and maybe that would help dampen the noise from the walkway outside. The shower had lower pressure. The breakfast was a basic continental, nice to have a quick bite. All in all, a good property on a less noisy street that most other places. We would stay again.

Very nice room, with two sinks - one outside the bathroom which was handy. A nice little balcony with chairs. Convenient location. And the elevator was very helpful for us. Beautiful communal deck overlooking a little creek. Definitely recommend.
