Major plusses: 1.Perfect location, a few steps from a beautiful, uncrowded, wide and long sand beach with rolling surf but separated from the more frenetic Tamarindo tourist scene by a 2 fifty-yard boat taxi across a tidal estuary. Gorgeous views 2. Large sparkling-clean swimming pool surrounded by subtropical gardens. 3. Spacious beach house that easily accommodated our 8 person family, with extra bedrooms and bathrooms, and second floor sitting area open to the Pacific view and breezes. 4. Unfailingly prompt, efficient and helpful concierge Cher—a great resource for booking excursions, obtaining info on the surrounding area, and helping with the minor maintenance issues that cropped up. 5.Security service was present but completely unobtrusive—area was safe. 6. Beds were comfortable and a/c functioned week in bedrooms with no issues (common areas are not air conditioned). 7. Staff was always pleasant.Kitchen could benefit from some updating, but was spacious. Updated photos would show some changes on the property from the ones shown now.

Our host was very helpful and answered all our questions promptly. We loved the location. Quiet peaceful beach but close enough to enjoy Tamarindo and all it has to offer. The option to have a cook come in for meals was wonderful. Our concierge for the trip was also extremely helpful and was willing to go out of her way to accommodate any concerns we had. Our only complaints we had is the host raised the price after we booked which we felt was incredibly unfair as well as reduced the size of the areas we had access to due to construction so in the end we had to pay quite a bit more for less space. Unfortunately we were staying over Christmas break and all other properties that could accommodate a group of our size were booked by the time they informed us of the changes. Be that as it may we did find the space we had to be adequate.

Fantastic stay in Casa Guayacan for our group of 14 over Christmas. The house was spacious and perfect for a large family. The concierge was incredibly responsive and arranged everything—private surf lessons right in front of the house at sunset (a highlight), excursions, transportation, groceries, and three delicious cooked dinners. We loved enjoying the sunset from the beach every night. Stress-free, special, and highly recommended.

Private paradise

This property is amazing. You are just steps from the beach, which has a great break full of kind local surfers. You are only a 10 min walk on the beach to the water taxi into tamarindo for 2 per person. So you are close to society, but the beach is insanely less crowded than Tamarindo, when I would have coffee at 5:30 AM I’d often be the only person on playa Grande. Manfred was amazing, he was super helpful by instantly solving any tiny issues we had. They provided local contacts and made the whole process seem less and easy. My kids loved the big pool and all of the crabs and wildlife. We saw howler monkeys multiple times! Thanks for the great stay! We will be back!

Family getaway

Perfect size and setup for a family group of 7 adults and 5 kiddos. Great location - steps away from the beach and a quick walk to take the panga boats across the estuary into Tamarindo. Beautiful private pool. Hosts are super responsive for any issues. Make sure to bring cash if you are working with the hosts for groceries / meal prep (which is highly recommended - food was amazing!).

Private beach, perfect layout

Our group of 10 had an amazing week in this beautiful home! The layout with each bedroom having it's own bathroom was great. There were multiple areas to lounge around and relax outside of the bedrooms as well. Nothing can beat the private path that is literally steps to the beach and an excellent surf break. As some of our group surfed, others watched them from the comfort of the 2nd story lounge area. The pool is huge and the covered portion was nice when we had too much sun. We had Alcira cook breakfast each day and dinner for a couple of the nights. If we could do it again, we'd have her make dinner every night. She made the most amazing meals and was one of my personal highlights of the trip. Beautiful platters of fresh fruit every morning, perfectly made eggs, the most delicious rice and beans. It was amazing food and so much easier having her team do the shopping, cooking and cleaning. Sher helped us with our excursions which was nice too. We went fishing and took a morning catamaran tour with Panache.The only cons to the house were the yoga platform was not open during our stay. There is no dishwasher in the home or access to a washer and dryer. You will pay 10 a bag to have laundry done for you. Not a big deal, but good to know upfront. Overall, I would highly recommend this home to anyone visiting Playa Grande. You will not be disappointed!

Incredible location and service

Location: 10/10. Couldn't ask for a better spot. It's far enough out of the way that there are hardly any people on the beach (seriously, it felt like a private beach), but if you want to go out for lunch or shopping, you can walk a short way down the beach and take a 2, 2 minute long boat ride to bustling Tamarindo. This is a big advantage of being at the south end of Playa Grande. Service: 10/10. Between concierge, Sher, who took care of our every need, the friendly housekeepers, and Leo and the maintenance team who took care of the grounds and the pool, we felt very well taken care of. Although we had several issues with the house during our stay (all within reason for a house in the jungle - ants appearing from nowhere, a shower that didn't work, etc), each of those issues were taken care of promptly (like, within 15 minutes or less!)Chef: 10/10 If you are debating about hiring Alcira, the chef, don't hesitate! The food was delicious, fresh and plentiful at every meal. We originally only intended to hire her for a few nights, but ended up requesting extra nights . Highly recommended!House/Facilities: 8/10 The house itself is spacious and comfortable and has rustic character. However, there are a few things that could be done to make the stay even better. Some of that sheets and blankets seem worn (although they were very clean), we had an issue with water leaks and the patio doors are old and hard to open. Some new cushions and a few fixes would make it a 10.

Good Aspects: lots of room for large groups. Large fans in common areas helped with airflow. Good air conditioning all bedrooms. Good size pool. Beach literally on doorstep. Sufficient cups/ plates all guests. Nice selection of kitchen appliances. Sheets clean and additional supplies given when requested. Negative Aspects: (not withstanding the fact 11 of our guests were stricken with food poisoning)No one there to greet you on arrival. No-one to contact in an emergency situation to ask for advice. Loud construction of building behind pool - I think meant to be workout yoga area - inaccessible. Thankfully no noise on Sat or Sun.Overall neglect of property. All common area seating shabby and dirty looking. Only thin covers on beds - when stripped before leaving many pillows stained underneath covers. Tiles missing in pool. Floors dirty and wood floors rough uncomfortable to walk bare foot. Garbage receptacle by beach access not emptied during entire stay. One set of doors unable to be locked when leaving property or at night. Windows of one room did not seal properly. This property needs some TLC - felt run down

Beautiful & magical property!

We had our small wedding here and it was truly magical! The property is gorgeous and is steps from the beach. Our family and friends had a wonderful experience. The host, Manfred, was very communicative and helpful throughout our planning process and we are very grateful.

There were 16 of us and we all had a blast. It is very secluded yet close enough to Playa Grande beach, and a short walk to cross over the estuary by small boats. Walking and boarding the boats are not for the physically impaired. The staff did their job and Alcira, our cook did a phenomenal job. Our concierge Alonso took care of all the small issues that can pop up.

Women's Retreat

I hosted a women's movement and healing retreat and this place was perfect!! It was super private and serene. Our house chef, Alcira and her mom cooked every meal for us and the food was incredible. Manfred, the home owner, was responsive to our every need before and during our stay. Highly recommend this beautiful and unique property and location.

Great Location

We rented both properties for our large group of 32 guests and had plenty of room for everyone. Manfred was great at answering my msg's before and during our trip. The chef service was wonderfully delicious. The only think I would change is adding more meals. The grounds staff was friendly and attentive. Honestly, I can't say enough about our stay. We would book this again.

Perfect place to escape

This was our third visit to the property, but this was the first 4-night stay that we booked and organized for the occasion of my 50th birthday. We rented both sides of the property (bungalows and main guest house) for 36 friends and family. The process of booking and working with the team for meals and activities was seamless. Because we had so many guests, it was comforting to know that we had someone working with us to plan this event. We love it here. It’s familiar, calming and secluded, but not too far away from many restaurant and activity options. The new pool and indoor dining/kitchen area is an excellent addition to the property. However, it was a disappointment that the other pool and corresponding lofted patio were under construction and somewhat neglected due to the new area being open. We were happy to discover that the pool was still open and functioning, but the kitchen and patio was not usable by our large group of 36. The surprise did not diminish the fun, but it was an unwelcome discovery. Needless to say, we hope to be back. We’ve celebrated birthdays and a wedding here, so it’s a place that is very special to us. Thank you for your care and commitment to providing visitors with a wonderful place to escape!

Casa Guayacan at Playa Grande

Manfred and his team are so helpful and kind. They made our stay comfortable and enjoyable. The recommendations were all great and the chef services were perfecto!. Anything that we needed was accessible right to the property. We could have stayed on the property the entire trip and we would have been comfortable and completely taken care of. The property is beautiful and the beach is amazing, with a surf break, sunsets and lightning storms to view from the second story spaces. Rainy season was enjoyable at Casa Guayacan. We hope to return someday.

Great spot for multi-generational family of 13

One of our favorite aspects was taking advantage of Alcira and her staff for cooking our meals. We had 7 breakfasts, 4 lunches and 7 dinners. All were delicious and special. We felt so pampered. Alcira and Mariella were like family! Staff were so attentive in cleaning every morning, and we had them do our laundry several times. The property is a bit rustic, but we were aware of this and were fine with it. (You will likely share your space with crabs and geckos. ) Owner, Manfred was immediately responsive via onsite staff for any questions, repairs, etc. Close by shops and restaurants available in Tamarindo via the water taxis (daylight hours). Walk up the beach to a nearby market and cafe in the Palm Beach neighborhood. Mandred hooked us up with Playa Grande Shuttles and Tours for airport transport and for many great excursions. We didn’t rent a car at all.

Beautiful Property on Unique Amazing Location!

Absolutely gorgeous location! Beach feels almost private with great waves for surfing and boarding. House is great for big groups, staff is very supportive and responds quickly to all needs! Estuary is short walk and boat rides to Tamarindo are super easy! Living space is open air so it is warm but the bedrooms stay very cool and comfortable! Pool is awesome and grounds are well kept. Highly recommend this house!
