Beautiful property and great hosts!

We (my kids, ages 5 through teenagers) loved the property! It was beautiful, as were the views and the beach itself. The check-in process was easy and the owners were helpful and communicative! Highly recommend!!

Nice coastal house getaway

Very nice small coastal getaway. The kids loved the bunk beds and games available at the house. Very comfortable and great help from owners when needing to change the thermostat.

Perfect Getaway

Loved the place, loved the views. Kat and Alex were excellent hosts. Photos were accurate of the property. Would definitely love to come back. The only critical comment - the only way to access the third bedroom is through the master bedroom - if you have teenagers, just be aware!

This was a really cool place! We picked it for the location outside of a tourist area, the 3 floors to give us all some space mid-way through a long road trip, the indoor and outdoor ways for our tween-agers to play and run, and the awesome deck for my husband and I to enjoy some local beverages. It did not disappoint!

Great Location for Families

It’s a great home and host for families. They have everything you could think of including the golf clubs that we used to golf the local course. The kids loved the game room and SEGA!

Secluded beach getaway

Area is very secluded which is what we wanted to be able to get away for a couple days. Gorgeous views and comfortable outdoor seating to enjoy those views and weather. Kept kids busy with walks around the area, exploring the tide pools and visiting the nearby Black Sand beach. This home had everything we needed for my family. My kids had fun playing on the ping pong table and outside in the yard. This home was fantastic and highly recommend staying here!!

Unexpected stay

We were forced to find a new spot to stay on one days notice, due to fires a couple hours up North of here. We got so lucky. Never knew about this area and now want to keep it our little secret. Loved everything and wish we could have stayed longer. We will be back and can’t wait to stay in this home again! Really just the best.

We really enjoyed our stay here! Super clean and had everything we needed for our stay. The area is super remote and super quiet. It’s a great get away. There is very little cell service along most of the northern coastline, but they had great WiFi at the house. Loved how everything was labeled in the home, soap, shampoo and conditioner was stocked. Linens were clean. They had fun games, a gaming console and old VHSs and DVDs. We saw a ton of wildlife around the outside of the house including a black bear one night! Just a great little spot to retreat to. Just be aware that it is a 45 minute drive in from the main road. There is not much around so pack in what you need. Black Sands Beach is not a beach to be in the water in because of the riptides. So just be aware of that too. I would recommend this to anyone looking to get just away.

Lovely Home in Lovely Town

Great place to stay for multiple people or even groups. Trees around and a view to the ocean. Located very close to Black Sand Beach and short drive to any shops/restaurants. The house has everything you need for the kitchen and a beautiful deck with plenty of outdoor furniture. Inside there is a bathroom on every floor and the 3 floor set up gives a lot of privacy between visitors. Everything was very clean and ready for use, even the outside furniture, which was nice. Only item to mention is that the neighbors are quite close when you're out on the deck. Definitely would like to stay there again.

Remarkable

The Whale Cove Retreat was a perfect home base for a relaxing and adventurous trip to Shelter Cove. First, Shelter Cove and surrounding towns were beautiful. Your surrounded by the coast, dense forest and redwoods. The home had everything we need and the hosts were proactive in making sure we were informed about logistics. We regularly saw deer grazing in the front yard which was a plus! If you’re headed to Shelter Cove, I highly recommend a stay here.

A Relaxing Retreat and Gateway to the Redwoods

As a family, we were looking to all stay together for a few days off the beaten path. This house in Shelter Cove had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. The hosts gave us ample descriptions in advance so that we’d know what to bring. They offered friendly assistance during our stay whenever we had questions. The house was clean and comfortable. We enjoyed exploring “The Lost Coast” and then driving further northeast into the Redwoods. The curvy roads to arrive to Shelter Cove from the South, however, are not for the faint of stomach.We dined at the local restaurants- all of which were delightful. We also cooked in the house and had everything we needed to make a family meal. Thanks to the owners for allowing us to feel at home and have a mini-break away from reality!

Great getaway!

We just loved this place! Check in was super easy and the house was very clean and comfortable. We felt right at home immediately. The deck was good sized so a great place to unwind and enjoy the view of the ocean. Nearby nature trails as well as the Black People beach made outdoors time enjoyable. And I appreciated Alex and Katherine texting to touch base and make sure everything was good for our stay. The only downside is that we eventually had to go home. Great place to stay and hope to come again!

Just What the Doctor Ordered

This Thanksgiving week was exactly what our family needed after our summer plans were canceled due to a medical emergency. We were able to download immediately. We rode bikes down the hill to the beach, explored tide pools and Abalone Point, and even golfed 9 holes in Shelter Cove. The place was labeled and fully stocked. We even used the BBQ to grill turkey legs. The hosts were amazing. I would recommend it highly.

Lovely retreat to the lost coast

Lovely home with a gorgeous view

We truly enjoyed the lovely house, which has stunning "sea views"(on its aptly named street) in a very walkable neighborhood teeming with deer and even a friendly fox. The three floors afford a lot of privacy and it is well equipped with kitchen tools, board games, televisions, cozy reading nooks and outdoor spaces. Shelter Cove has amazing black sand beaches, friendly business owners and just the perfect degree of remoteness to make you feel you are "getting away" without being totally isolated. The weather was perfect and we just could not have asked for a better, more relaxing experience. Perhaps most reassuring of all was the owners' level of communication and offers of support. Though none was needed, it was a very nice touch!
