"I'd love to be able to give this hotel 5 stars. It's wonderfully dog friendly, the hotel size is not too large, so you do get to know other people who stay at the hotel. The retreat area with free coffee, water and cake is a lovely touch, and whilst I didn't use it, the dog bathing and bike washing facilities looked exceptional.
The only thing that let this hotel down was the lack of air conditioning. We stayed during a heatwave, so sleeping was very difficult. There was a fan, but only a small one, which seemed quite old and dusty. It was difficult to get the fan to reach both of us in bed and the dog in his crate.
If the hotel were to get air conditioning, or even just bigger/better quality fans, I'd stay again without a moment's hesitation any time of the year."
"A fantastic place to stay for a few nights. A great base to explore the Peak District with a good bus link to the area. Staff were all helpful and friendly. Food was much better than expected for pub food. Breakfast included was a perfect size and all local produce. We stayed for one night, got the bus into Castleton and back to see a concert in Devils Arse. We couldn’t have chosen a better place to stay and would thoroughly recommend"
"We had a great weekend at the Cheshire Cheese, the bed was clean and comfy and the bathroom was spacious with clean crisp towels that were of ample size.
Tbh, the room could do with a deep clean as there was a fair bit of dust visible behind cupboards etc . The decor is a bit dated, but its great value for money .
The staff are friendly and helpful, the food and beer is great and good value
Oh and the breakfast is fantastic
We've stopped here before, and we'll be back again. It's a great pub"
