"I booked this hotel, partially based on the reviews that it was good for single travelers, and that was accurate assessment. Don't be fooled by the dated, lackluster exterior - my room had obviously been fairly recently renovated, and was secure, clean and comfortable. I was only there for a quick overnight stay, but if I'm ever back in the area, I wouldn't hesitate to book here again."

"The Black Bear Lodge came as described and fit my purposes very well. I was in the area to hike about 25 miles of trails in two days at Red River Gorge and Natural Bridge State Park. I was able to use the microwave to make my oatmeal and get out on the trail early. The room was clean and had what I needed to dry off from getting drenched outside. Parking was available, Location was down the street from some great restaurants like Miguel's and Red River Rockhouse. I was able to do just what I wanted to do here."

"Liked parking just outside our ground floor room door. Pleasant, efficient check-in man Jared gave us a room near the designated smoking area when he found out one of the guests was a smoker. Room was clean and furnishings were decent quality. Beds were comfortable and water pressure in shower was good. Water only warm, not hot one morning of two spent there. Hot breakfast was good for hotel food. Location seemed safe enough and there was a grocery store across the street. Lots of fast food, pizza, bar & grill food nearby, as well as gas stations/convenience stores. Interstate nearby but couldn't hear traffic from inside room. Bluegrass Heritage Museum in downtown Winchester, KY is worth visiting and all 3 floors are wheelchair accessible. Only 15 minutes to Fort Boonesborough and a Civil War fort across the river from it. Would definitely stay again if in the area."
