The hotel is beautiful. The temperature inside the hotel is warm, considering the cold and rainy Edinburgh weather, the people cannot do enough for you, and it’s in a great location. The only problem is outside the hotel, it’s very busy because there’s the train stop right there and the bus stop but you’re centrally located so that is great.
There are always cabs outside running to take you anywhere.
The restaurant, the Number One, in the hotel, Michelin rated, is excellent.
They have a great gym downstairs.
My only negative experience is when my daughter and I went on Sunday, 2/15/26 for brunch at our hotel, there was a young girl with dark hair and blue eyes who has the hostess. She asked us if we had a reservation and we did not. She asked us if we were staying at the hotel and we said yes.
Meanwhile, 90% of the hotel restaurant the Brasserie that we are referring to, was empty. She put us at the furthest table away, in the back corner, by the exit door where it was cold. I said and this is where you’re seating us? She said well it’s Sunday and every other table is reserved.
After my daughter and I left 45 minutes later, we had to rush because we had a private tour, 85% of the restaurant was still empty. She never said goodbye to us and we walked past her. Very rude.
When people are saying at a five star hotel, and we can afford to stay anywhere, service matters. I would suggest you give this hostess at the at the Brasserie on May 15 at 12 noon a lesson in service
Outstanding service. Numerous added touches that made the stay especially memorable — Christmas morning “stocking” filled with fruit, nuts and tea canister’” traditional Scottish food menu items along with many other choices, excellent housekeeping service (phone charger cords neatly tied up with a hotel tie), lovely afternoon tea and Christmas dinner.
Fantastic stay!
The location of The Balmoral Hotel is excellent. We used the valet service for parking and this worked very well for our short stay. Staff were very helpful and nothing was too much trouble.
Housekeeping deserves a special mention as the room was spotless with a daily service and then a turn down service in the evening. We will definitely be returning to this amazing hotel.
Great short stay in Edinbruh. Super clean and very helpful staff.
Particularly enjoyed the pool, gym and spa area. Holiday decorations was a bonus.

Disliked: Staff & service
The front door men did not open the door for me when I arrived from the airport with my luggage. They watched me and stared as if an alien arrived. That tainted everything from that point on. Subsequent attempts to be “nice” were futile. The hotel bills itself as luxury high end and charges accordingly. At such price points, guests expect great treatment.
