Magic on the Loire

Incredible, tranquil retreat for friends and family on the Loire. The love, design and thoughtful detail Audrey and Xavier poured into this home capture and embrace you from the moment you arrive. They should write a book on their journey to create the warm design throughout that marries classic countryside with modern functional needs. Easily accommodates four adult couples. Perfect kitchen and indoor and outdoor dining areas for creating fabulous dinners. 30 second walk across the street to stroll, run or bike the river. Fantastic base for wine touring in the Saumur area and for nearby Chateaux viewing. Relax and enjoy.

Family Get Away

We were a family of 8 - elderly in-laws, middle aged couple and our grown up children and their partners. What an amazing place, equipped with the very best of everything. Superb huge bedrooms all with en-suite facilites and some stunning gardens. 2 e-bikes were used every morning to bike and collect fresh bread and pastries just over 15 minutes away in Gennes. So much to do and see in the area - we were so lucky that on day one was the Saumur Marathon finishing in the centre of Saumur - what a day!! We are all foodies and love to cook - the kitchen and dining room were our places - matched with some trmendous produce purchased at the surrounding markets and the the butchers in Doue la Fontaine - Maison Godet is worth a visit. Loved Saumur and Montreuil - Bellay. Thank you for a wonderful stay - we loved it

CREME DE LA CREME.

We did not want to live! The property has it all! Incredible space, privacy, and location. Lots of room for my grand kids to play, the pool area and pool was a delight especially on those warm days. The00000000000000000000000 piece de resistance: a gorgeous tastesfully redecorated mansion all done superbly. From the country kitchen all equiped w/top appliances even w/the italien expresso & coffee machine! We were 4 adults and 2 children ( 8 &10 years old) we all had so much space. We ate all our meals on the grand outdoor patio. How refreshing to find a home where the host gives so much attention to details and offers the comfort that this home has. Xavier thank you again for letting us extend a few hours our stay. My family along with my 2 grandchildren spend a superb time in your unique and gorgeous home. Hope to be back next year!

Superb property

We were delighted with our stay at this property. We were a party of seven being three generations of a family. The house has four beautiful spacious bedrooms with ensuites. The kitchen is wonderfully kitted out and all of the other rooms are superbly furnished. The gardens are beautiful and pool great. Would highly recommend.

Beautiful house in the Country!

We loved staying in Xavier's gorgeous house about 15 minutes outside of Saumur. The house is beautifully and tastefully renovated still capturing the ancient spirit of houses in the neighborhood. Xavier was very communicative and we had a very smooth entry. All the directions for the house are clearly spelled out in both French and English. But it was all fairly self-explanatory. The kitchen was extremely well stocked, and featured a chef's gas stove. We ended up cooking in 3 of 4 nights, taking advantage of the great local products that the boucheries, fromageries, and organic vegetable stores had to offer. The bedrooms were all relatively large and very comfortable. The two 2nd floor bathrooms have both baths and a large stand up shower. The upstairs two bedrooms have the more traditional, large tub with shower handle. The property itself was beautiful. We lamented that it was winter that we couldn't take advantage of the swimming pool. That said, we loved having dinner by the fire in the well-appointed dining room. We also took advantage of the e-bikes to take a long ride along the Loire River and then up in the hills. Can't wait to come back to this beautiful house! Merci beacoup, Xavier, pour un séjour chaleureux, i.e. a wonderful stay!

Family break on the Loire

We had a fantastic week at Maison d’Anjou. We have been to very many gites in France and this property is exceptional. The house, the garden and pool are all more spacious than implied by the photographs online. Eight people can be accommodated in true luxury. The kitchen is extremely well equipped and enabled indoor and outdoor dining for all of us with ease, making use of the garden produce tended with care by Alain. Each bedroom is en-suite, enormous and furnished to a very high standard. This stay was 5-star in every respect and we would not hesitate to return. Merci Xavier

Magical week away

I really cannot praise this property enough! It's been said many times before on other reviews, but the photos really do not do it justice! It is absolutely stunning in every way possible! Huge rooms, exquisite decor, fresh fruit and veg to enjoy from the beautiful garden, large and spotless pool, peaceful location. Xavier couldn't do enough to help us - discreet yet immediately responsive. My only complaint is that we didn't book for longer...one week was not enough to enjoy this wonderful, magical property. We will be back!

Fabulous house

This is a beautiful home. The attention to detail is excellent. All the rooms are very spacious and the bedrooms feel really luxurious. There is a lot of outside space and the pool is large enough to enjoy a good swim. Xavier is an excellent and responsive host. Highly recommended and would love to return one day.

Wonderful villa and stay

We were a group of 7 friends that enjoy travel to Europe. We prefer to self-cater so that we can cook, enjoy markets, etc. This house was very spacious and gave everyone plenty of room for reading, hanging outside, enjoying the pool and relaxing. Xavier has done a wonderful job restoring this property. The color palette of the home is gorgeous and its rustic charm is cleverly accentuated with elegant touches in the lighting and the artwork. The home has lots of natural light as well. We enjoy cooking and found the kitchen fairly well stocked. If I have to find one request, it would be for better chef's knives, but we made do just fine. When we arrived we found full bottles of olive oil, vinegars, charcoal, several spices, toilet paper and starters. So nice to not have to run out immediately to purchase these items. We replaced everything we used, plus some. Really thoughtful of the owner to have started us with some basics. The bedrooms are all very spacious and I did not realize that the floorplan encompasses 3 floors. As other reviews have said, the photos are representative, but don't cover everything that there is in this house. The pool and grounds are lovely. The pool is much larger than we expected and there were pool towels and cushions in the pool house. House is surrounded by a garden/fence and is gated. The area is extremely quiet and very close to make the bakery run in the morning or get to some larger supermarkets nearby. We enjoyed several restaurants and caves in the area. All-in-all, a super holiday! We thoroughly enjoyed the house and the grounds. I do hope that we return to the area in the near future and would happily stay in this property again.

Breathtakingly wonderful

The loveliness of this property cannot be properly described and certainly the pictures cannot do it justice. It is quite simply exquisite. It has been furnished and fitted to the highest quality and with exceptional imagination. It is also very much larger and spacious than we imagined. The gardens are delightful and location truly idyllic. Xavier was attentive and very responsive to the few questions we had. I have travelled extensively throughout my life, for both business and leisure and I am not sure I have stayed anywhere nicer than Maison D'Anjou. I very much hope to be able to return

The description of the property was accurate but the reality was better. To find some basic foodstuffs waiting for us plus the ability to pick fruit and veg from the garden was superb and the pool quite excellent. Beds supremely comfortable. All the tech gizmos impressive. Minor quibbles: the corkscrew was hopeless; the distressed mirrors in the bathrooms irritating and the lack of protection on the beam between bedrooms and bathrooms on the second floor potentially dangerous.

Stylish and comfortable

The house is large and extremely well maintained , decorated and comfortable. The kitchen is large and we cooked meals for 6 easily. It was very nice to arrive to new oils, coffee and a chilled bottle... There are 2 large garden areas and many places and tables to eat outside in or out of the sun. The pool is above average size and very pleasant to use and well serviced. The poolside area is large and well equipped for lazy days. We really enjoyed living at. This property for 2 weeks - a holiday to remember

Fabulous! Really the place is beautifully decorated and more than we had hoped for!!

We live in Washington DC and it’s always a bit undaunting to travel so far and not be certain as to what you may be getting into!. The home was beyond our wildest expectations! The beds and sheets and towels were so comfortable. Honestly, we are very picky and travel all over the world and this home did not disappoint us. The places as renovated to perfection, right out of a magazine! We love to cook and we used the herb garden (part of the beautiful grounds) and awesome kitchen to fix a birthday feast for one of our friends! Loved every minute... picture don’t do it justice! Absolutely Fabulous!

It is not often that the actual property is even better than the advertising photographs .. but this is! A beautifully and sympathetically renovated and fitted out property with everything that is required for an enjoyable holiday - and more. Absolutely first class. We were a group of eight with aged from over 70 to under 5 and we all had a wonderful time. Comfortable beds, excellent bath and showers, wonderful living rooms and a well fitted out kitchen. Outside we had a choice of sitting areas if we were not enjoying the swimming pool or having a barbecue. Sublime!

Awesome Audrey

La Maison d'Audrey exceeded our expectations. The pictures on the website do not do it justice. The house was huge and very tastefully decorated. The outside areas were perfect for outside dining, playing boule and many other silly games that we made up. The pool was much bigger than anticipated and had various inflatables to keep little ones happy. The location was perfect, 100m from the river which was ideal to put our kayaks in. The surrounding countryside was ideal for running and quiet for cycling. We were very lucky to visit Cholet while The Tour was on, Saumur to soak up the atmosphere of the world cup and sample the local wine. All in all, for us, a perfect family holiday.

EXTRAORDINARY! Beautifully decorated French Countryside Chateau!

My family and I had the pleasure of staying at La Maison D’Audrey for a family wedding close by the last week of May. The homeowner, Xavier, made booking and communication a breeze through VRBO. He was lovely and was intentive with questions and answered anything. The home itself was absolutely stunning. Light and airy. It had four beautiful bedrooms, 4 large king beds with white linens, each with their own bath. Massive Chef’s kitchen, living and dining rooms; including a laundry room and a wrap-around outdoor patio with two al-fresco dining tables. The yard and grounds of the house were meticulously kept with flowers and trees blooming all over. We quite enjoyed the pool as well, it was wonderful (and heated!). Each morning we woke up to the windows open and just the sounds of birds. It was such a beautiful landscape with a more beautiful home. If we ever end up going back to the French countryside, we wouldn’t blink twice to rent this place again. HIGHLY recommend!
