I felt obliged to post a review of this hotel due to our recent experience.
The hotel itself is a fine building and very grand. The rooms are elegant in proportion and spacious.
Most of the staff were helpful with the odd exception.
Points to note - once you arrive you will not want to leave, not because it is wonderful, but because of the horrendous journey up the very long drive way to the hotel. This was a driveway unlike no other! Big chunks of gravel interspersed with potholes, and the dust created means our white car is now very beige.
Dog friendly - is all well and good but please do not leave your dog in your room when you go for your meal. The dog barking was incessant at times and seemed to echo around the building.
The rooms - no fancy extras here. No bottled water, just basic tea bags and coffee sachets, not a biscuit in sight. No toiletries apart from a bottle of soap on sink, on bath and in shower. 1 hand towel and 2 bath towels for 2 people.
The breakfast - very basic. Maybe because it was a sunday but the juice wasnt fresh, the continental was limited and the full scottish breakfast was not the best. Cold toast and cold beans and not very appetising sausages.
Previous reviews have all been very good so maybe we were just unlucky.
