Waterloo - Salisbury train passing Raynes Park. View eastward, towards Wimbledon and Waterloo: ex-LSW Waterloo - Woking and the West main line; junction of the line to Epsom, Dorking etc. - controlled by the signalbox behind the locomotive. The 18.54 Waterloo - Salisbury semi-fast is headed by SR rebuilt Bulleid Light Pacific No. 34048 'Crediton' (built 11/46, rebuilt 3/59, withdrawn 3/66). The view is from the Up main platform, Raynes Park having Up and Down sides staggered. [One of my few colour photographs of railways in those days].
Lake on Cannon Hill Common. View northward, off Cannon Hill Lane. [It seems to have no inlet or outlet, so where does the water come from?]
Across Cannon Hill Common to Wimbledon - late summer. View NE from near Cannon Hill Lane (and site of former Cannon Hill House, demolished in the 1930's). Wimbledon village is in the distance.

The room and the staff were excellent as was the breakfast with only some confusion about what type of fried egg was required and the subsequent time taken mean that had almost eaten half of rest before meal came.
