Find your Groove in Ocean Beach
Just north of Point Loma, this small beach town is a favorite among locals for its blissful mix of activities and pastimes, including surfing, sunbathing near the pier and strolling among the many surf shops, taco stands and unique local boutiques. Ocean Beach boasts a throwback vibe of vintage SoCal, coupled with friendly locals, great dining and microbrews, and a vibrant nightlife scene.

WHERE TO GO
The Pier at the foot of Newport Avenue is one of the longest piers in Southern California, extending a half mile out to sea. The Ocean Beach Pier is one of the few places in San Diego where you can fish without a valid California fishing license. It is now fully reopened after extensive repairs due to storm and wave damage.
Dog Beach is wedged between the Mission Bay Harbor Channel and the jetty at the north end of Ocean Beach. Here, pets are not only allowed on the beach, but are permitted to play leash-free with other canine beach-lovers.

This shabby Chic bungalow is walking distance to the beach, boardwalk and downtown shops , eating. Great outdoor space for BBQ and enjoying your morning coffee or evening glass of wine. Free on site parking included.

The unit was clean and I appreciated the bedroom being a bit separated from the living area. It was musty when we checked in. We were able to air out the unit except the bathroom continued to smell like mildew. It was clean though. Although the bathroom was not as nice as it looked in the photos, I think it is a great property for the price and location.

We had a terrible experience! The cottage was not the one that was in the picture for our booking. The bathroom stunk and had mold on both sides of the shower walls. Even though we left the window open for hours, the smell was still there. Our host did not respond to our issues. We had to leave the cottage and find somewhere else to stay.Not a place I would ever return to.

My family and I enjoyed our stay at the house, it was so easy to book and cozy. We were at San Diego for my son’s military graduation ceremony and family events, we would arrive exhausted and we were so glad that the place clean and cozy for rest and has everything we need. I really recommend this cozy bungalow, it’s small but it was perfect for my family of four.

I loved my stay at the beach cottage! It checked all of my boxes; comfortable bed, coffee, clean, quiet, great location (it really is 2 blocks from the beach), restaurants, Old Town, the airport (very little noise in the daytime and none at night), and parking. I wouldn't hesitate to stay again.

Parking was good. Nice to have a designated parking spot . Towels and linens smelled musty and the place smelled like backed up sewage. On our last night , we saw 2 very large cockroaches . Will attach pictures . We notified the owner but she was not nice about it at all and did not want to hear what we had to say. The AC unit was broken but we didn’t want to complain because the owner was. It nicest all. TV didn’t work half the time . We didn’t want to complain but because we didn’t complain until the last day , the owner was very nasty to us . The place looked nothing like the pictures. .it was run down and dirty . There was no porch light. Hard to see at night . Very hot inside with no air flow. Smelled like backed up sewage and no ventilation . The linens were very stinky and nothing was fresh . The place smelled like it was a hundred years old. Nails coming out of the floors. Must wear shoes at all times . Nowhere to hang anything. Bathroom shower leaked and sprayed all over the bathroom. Electrical outlets in bathroom were very unsafe. Water everywhere. The place was Very small . Beware of the cockroaches! They were the size of a half dollar ! Pretty disgusting ! We did not see them until our last day but we didn’t spend much time in our unit because it was so hot and dirty. we only came to sleep . Very horrible experience. Beware of the roaches !

Stayed here for two nights, bathroom smelt like mildew, bed linens had hair and were dirty, no air ventilation and also found live huge cockroaches under the sink and in the shower— has a lot of potential if given more effort and tlc.

Pros: location, beds comfortable, parking spaceCons: Many! Bathroom smells of sewer, kitchen drawers and shelves are dirty, no air flow (had to run A/C non stop with windows open for smell), uneven floor, dead cockroaches under sink near the dish rack, poorly stocked kitchen (Do not plan to cook here, lots of plates but only three forks and two butter knives), multiple outlets didn't work (one was hanging off the half kitchen wall) and it was hard to keep fans running for smell and also charge phones, uneven flooring with nails and screws ticking up from thresholds, SMALL!, part of the futon armrest is missing a plug leaving an exposed and sharp metal tube, no laundry washing options (except a nearby laundromat), drain coverings are loose, pieces of drywall were on the floor with a tool left there, smoke from people smoking on the front picnic benches just rolled through the home and with no airflow the whole place smelled of cigarettes.If you want a place for parking that is close to the beach, this works but you have things to put up. It was overpriced for what the place was. Really the best thing going for it is the location and parking. I just keep thinking for the money we paid each night, the place should be fixed up much more. I really don't know how anyone could honestly give this place 10/10. My kids and I called this the janky rental.

We stayed here for three nights in late June, and while we were looking forward to our visit based on the positive reviews and appealing photos in the VRBO listing, we found that our experience did not align with those expectations.The “bungalow” appears to be a conversion from several living quarters of what was originally a house, and the layout presents some unique challenges. The parking space is located in an alley behind the building next to a 7-11, where we noticed some unhoused individuals rummaging through the nearby garbage cans, which impacted our sense of security.Upon entering the space, we encountered a strong odor of sewer and mildew that permeated throughout, which made our stay less comfortable. Additionally, with only two small windows, airflow was quite limited, and during the warm afternoons and evenings, the space felt particularly stifling. Although there is a portable AC unit, it unfortunately only blew out warm air, further contributing to the discomfort. We also noticed that the electrical outlets were loose, raising concerns about safety.While the space itself was clean, the persistent odor detracted from that cleanliness. For the price we paid, it seems there could be more attention to upkeep and maintenance to enhance the overall guest experience.On a positive note, the surrounding area is charming and quaint, with a short walk to the beach. However, based on our experience, we would likely choose to stay elsewhere in the future.

Perfect location

The location is perfect with a 2 block walk to the beach and awesome local restaurants. The place is small. Our biggest issue was the A/C unit. It did not work correctly. After letting it run for a while it actually starts blowing out hot air. Our first night was uncomfortable. The second night we opened the windows and used the additional fans there and were prettycool. Overall, it was a good stay, just hot at times. We were harsly there, so it was not a major problem, and the San Diegobweather was on our side.

Enjoyed the historic cottage and the close walk to the beach and places to eat. Electrical Problems

I'm reluctantly writing this bad review because, honestly it's the first one I've written in almost 2 decades of using VRBO but here we are. The property had an electrical wiring problem upon check-in and it went unresolved for the entire stay with very minimal effort on the part of the host. Since this was a safety issue in the unit, I contacted the host numerous times throughout our stay but got very little in the way of responses back from her. We did not have the use of about half the outlets in the unit, The router, TV and kitchen outlets being out was inconvenient but it was really nerve-wracking wondering the whole time if anything else would go wrong with the wiring. In addition, when I contacted VRBO, they absolved themself of any responsibility so apparently do not guarantee their properties as I had always thought. As for the rest of the stay, this is a fairly standard, low rent unit in a bungalow that has been subdivided into 4 other units, so it's really a small apartment. And I mean really small - there's really no place to sit together, but we don't go to OB to sit inside on the couch anyway. The kitchen is well enough appointed to be able to cook a basic meal with a gas stove and utensils. pots, pans and and dishes. It's well located to dog beach and the restaurants on Voltaire Street and the fun of Newport Ave is not far away. Once the wiring problems are cleared up it's a decent stay for what it is - a place to sleep at the best beach in SoCal.

Not worth your money

If you don’t mind the smell of moisture mold, this place is for you. Our first impression walking in was disgust, but being that we wanted to enjoy our vacation we put the thought to the side and sucked it up. The bathroom smelt very strongly of bleach and once that smell wore off it smelt close to a public restroom. Our stay was 7 nights long. We noticed we were only given two wash cloths, but being that we saw a description of laundry facilities we figured we would just wash them. Messaged the host to ask where the dryer and laundry facilities were that were listed, she said dryer means hair dryer and she wasn’t aware the details listed laundry facilities. I expressed my concern about only having two wash cloths for a 7 day trip and no response from the host. Took it to VRBO and no help there either. We also mentioned the mold smell. After that, the host quit responding all together so we went to the dollar store and bought our own washcloths and had to take time out of our vacation to wash clothes at a laundromat. All in all, not what we signed up for. On our way home we received a message from the host, which seemed to be automated. Still no apology for the inconvenience, just asked us to leave a 5 star review if we enjoyed our stay and explaining how even a 4 star review can hurt their image. I was honestly shocked being that they offered absolutely no help to us at all during our stay.

It's OB so it's funky, fun and the place has a certain je ne sais quoi. The beds are great, the shower/bathroom is good (need more places to put toiletries), the kitchen is cozy but has all the things you need except a frying pan and it really needs a standard coffee pot. They only have Netflix so if you want to watch anything else on TV I guess you better stream on your devices. The "living room" sofa is tiny, uncomfortable and barely fits two people. I would replace it with two small comfy chairs and get rid of one of the small tables and provide a blow-up mattress.But the location is great and the fact that you have your own parking spot is worth everything - awesome! You can walk to Dog Beach, coffee shops and fun restaurants/shops. It's close to freeway entrances and major streets to explore other parts of San Diego.

I was told by the property manager that there is a power issue and will be resolved by checking in. But it was never resolved. My family had to spend three nights with no TV, no stable wifi connection, and no ceiling lights. I was very disappointed about unresponsive property manager. Bed is good as the photo shows, but room is not blight as the photo shows. There are films of butterflies attached on the ceiling window blocking sunlight. Bathroom stinks. Neighborhood seems a bit unsafe, may not be good for family with small children.

Quaint cottage in lovely location

Cute place and very clean! So great to have parking and outdoor seating areas. Appreciated the espresso maker, pods and creamers made available. Worked well for our 2 night stay to visit our daughter.
