Relax in this beautiful, sunny district of Guernsey known for its scenic coastline, picturesque towns and lively local culture.

Castel is one of Guernsey’s most appealing regions, encompassing a selection of historic attractions and stunning beaches. Drive along its scenic roads to find quiet coastal towns populated by ever-friendly locals, who are always ready to welcome you to their corner of the island. Linger on sandy beaches overlooking the English Channel on one day, then visit enthralling historical attractions the next.

Learn about the island’s history at one of Castel’s finest attractions, Saumarez Park. These expansive gardens are linked by a nature trail to Cobo Bay, and you can walk here easily then explore the park on foot. The park hosts the Guernsey Folk and Costume Museum, a National Trust Property that charts how people on the island lived in different eras.

The nearby town of Cobo offers several places to eat while overlooking the scenic bay. Enjoy a cup of tea in the famous tearooms or pick up the classic snack of fish and chips to eat on the beach.

Next to Cobo lies Fort Hommet, a Victorian fortification that overlooks two bays on either side of the peninsula. Take a trip into the bunkers here, which were used by occupying German forces in World War II.

Castel is most famous, however, for its gorgeous beaches with golden sand and calm waters. Cobo Bay is one of the highlights, but on the other side of Fort Hommet is the equally enticing Vazon Bay. Head here for surfing and kite flying or to simply enjoy seafood with ocean views.

Drive to the northeastern corner of Castel to find the Grandes Rocques, also known as Saline Bay. This protected area of coastline features grassy dunes that roll down onto a peaceful beach. The edges of the beach are lined with sloping, pink granite rocks, enhancing the atmosphere as the sun sets over the water.

Drive to Castel towns such as Cobo and Albecq from Guernsey Airport in about 15 minutes. Holiday accommodation are plentiful throughout Castel. Find a place to stay along the coast for uninterrupted views of the English Channel.
