Directly facing majestic Sleeping Lion mountain, and an easy walk from downtown Fort Davis, the historic accommodations of Casa Hermosa Starlight provide the ideal home base for your west Texas adventures. We’re pet friendly, so bring the pooch.

Stretch out and relax with all the comforts. The Starlight offers two bedrooms with one queen-size and one double bed, a full bath, a living area, and a full kitchen. Flat-screen TV with complimentary Netflix, and free wireless. Or simply watch the light change on the mountain from your front-porch rocker!

It's the best of all worlds for your getaway. You're in town, so you're not subject to being stranded in a remote location if the elements turn against you. You can stroll and dine and shop and soak up the unique character of Fort Davis, and you're a quick drive from Texas' most dramatic mountain vistas. Fifteen breathtaking miles from the McDonald Observatory. Twenty miles from the art Mecca of Marfa. Thirty-two miles from a refreshing swim in the spring-fed mountain pool at Balmorhea. You're surrounded by history both inside--in a past life, Casa Hermosa served our country as a barracks for Army Air Force pilots during World War I---and outside--the rocks on our mountains are 500 million years old, and once served as hiding places for Apache and Comanche warriors.

The Casa Hermosa is an original adobe structure in the old town of Fort Davis. The home consists of 2 independent units, The Starlight, and The King Suite. Each space has its own covered patio, private entrance, dedicated parking, and grill. This listing is solely for the Starlight.

This pet friendly property offered us a base camp with easy access to Davis Mountains State Park, chihuahuan desert research institute, Alpine, and Marfa. The property was well kept and the beds were comfortable. I haven’t seen a night sky that big since the Omani desert. Plenty of deer and javelinas around dusk every day.

Our family of 4 and dog had a great and comfortable stay at the casita. We spent 3 nights at the property and were very pleased with all the amenities that were available to us such as the kitchen and even down to the shampoo & conditioner available to us. If you want solitude and the quiet of West Texas this is the way to go. Beds were comfortable and air conditioner was much appreciated during our rather warm Christmas. Small home with very comfortable beds. The house is directly across the street from the local high school. Lots of goat heads/stickers in the yard made it unusable for the doggie, had to walk the neighborhood instead. With everything considered, I would stay here again. Matt was very responsive to questions. We love Fort Davis and all the things to do in the area!

This is my favorite place to stay while in Fort Davis! This is my second stay with Matt, the first time being in the one bedroom unit. So, it felt like coming home, when I saw that the 2-bedroom unit was available this stay. Matt is great on communication, and very welcoming. The space is very welcoming, and the porch is the place to be, with a view of Sleeping Lion Mountain. The neighborhood is great for walking my dogs, very quiet and safe. Everything was perfect. I will definitely stay there again, and recommend to my friends who might be traveling there. Thank you for another great stay, Matt!

Sweet Escape

We came to celebrate our sons 5th birthday with a star party and while the observatory and sights were amazing, our “mini house” (as our son lovingly called it) was truly one of the best parts. We didn’t know it was monsoon season so we spent a few hours each day sitting on the porch reading and playing while listening to the rain and it was perfect. The style, vibes, and comfort were outstanding. Also, this is probably one of the softest beds I’ve ever slept on. It was an amazing stay! 100/10 would recommend!

Weekend getaway

We came to Fort Davis for a weekend getaway to visit the area and McDonald Observatory. The property was as described and very comfortable. A broom would have been helpful to sweep up the tracked in dust from the yard. Another helpful thing would be either window shades or darker curtains. The sun shone in brightly through the kitchen and bedroom windows and I can see it raising the inside temperature in the summer due to that. The ac worked great and the house was very well supplied with the necessary items such as coffee, creamer and sugar as well as some basic cooking spices. Bed was very comfortable and the provided toiletries were nice. Very walkable to town. The lights from the nearby tennis court can be super bright if you’re trying to spend some time outside in the evening to enjoy the stars.

As brilliant as the night skies!

We loved spending our stay here. It was the perfect size for us for a few days. The exterior space for dark sky viewing was splendid. We truly enjoyed the coziness of the tiny house and trying out the various on- and off-grid services. I thought the bed would be too soft, but it was a dream. We would definitely stay here again.

Peaceful abode

We absolutely love this home! We’ve stayed 3 times over the last few years. It’s so quiet and walking distance to downtown. The view of sleeping lion mountain as you sit in the rocking chairs on the front porch is surreal. The stars are so bright! Sigh it was so hard to leave. Everything you need is provided. The home is spotless. The beds are comfy. We look forward to staying again soon.

We had a lovely several days visiting Fort Davis and enjoyed our stay at the Casa Hermosa. Communication with Matthew was clear and prompt. The house was very comfortable for two couples and we enjoyed some time out on the front porch. Very convenient for our trips to McDonald Observatory and Davis Mountain State Park. Would definitely stay again.

The perfect place to get away

This is one of the nicest places we’ve ever booked on VRBO. Not only was it spacious, but it’s beautifully decorated and full of the comforts of home. The hosts were very thoughtful in their choice of amenities. The kitchen was a good size for cooking and there was a charcoal grill. The beds were very comfortable. And the water pressure in the shower was amazing. Best of all, Matt and Beth kept in communication leading up to checking in and made sure the heat and front porch light was in for our nighttime arrival. We are looking forward to staying on our next trip to Fort Davis.
