Top Galloway Activity Centre Hotel Reviews
Cally Palace Hotel & Golf Course
8/10 Good
"The hotel staff were friendly and helpful, food was very good. Decor of the hotel could be described as faded grandeur. Our room was huge and clean though needed an update of furniture. Bed massive and reasonably comfy. We were in the forest wing, walls thin and could be noisy depending on neighbours. Overall we enjoyed our week long stay, we had been a number of times before so knew what to expect. If you are looking for a modern, boutique type hotel this is not for you. For us it is a very reasonable place to stay as a base for the area. It's up for sale at the moment and may change depending on a future purchaser."
The Cross Keys Hotel
10/10 Excellent
"Excellent hotel clean throughout, staff very friendly and helpful breakfast delicious"
Tom's Place - a bungalow that sleeps 4 guests in 2 bedrooms
8/10 Good
"A spotlessly clean very well appointed bungalow. Lovely bathroom and great to have a wood burner. It's located in a very quiet cul de sac which, if I'm honest, let's the property down. Some of the neighbouring properties were a little run down cosmetically. Don't be put off. There were no problems whatsoever during our week's holiday with any neighbours or the on street parking. The property is very well located for walking down into town (there is a short length of hill to climb to return) and a medium sized Tesco is only 5 minutes walk through the housing estate. Similarly, to the rear of the property, further up the hill, in there is a lovely wood within 5 minutes walk if you're a dog owner as we are. On that point, the garden is very secure. The bungalow has been very nicely refurbished and has everything you might need other than perhaps a few more pans and utensils if you enjoy cooking. The internet signal was a bit patchy on occasions. Nice TV with several streaming channels. We had a small problem with the shower on the first day, and the host couldn't have been more helpful. Overall a lovely property and ideal for a restful break or as a base for exploring Galloway."
The Kings Arms Hotel
10/10 Excellent
"Good breakfast and the restaurant was really good"
Stroan - a cottage that sleeps 4 guests in 2 bedrooms
10/10 Excellent
"Very quirky, beautifully decorated and extremely comfortable home from home. Spotlessly clean, friendly neighbourhood, and an amazing community shop with fantastic staff. Parking was plentiful, either directly outside Stroan or in the free car park down Wylie Brae. Excellent location with lots to do. Walks from the cottage were easy to navigate to, which was great for our German Shepherd Bear."
Imperial Hotel
8/10 Good
"My friend and I spent Wednesday night there, and received a VERY friendly welcome from a nice lady at the reception desk. Unfortunately, there are no lifts and the stairs are rather steep and spiral too, which as two elderly men with walking sticks we found quite hazardous with our luggage. When we got to our room, which was on the first floor, the light in the shower room and loo was broken, resulting in complete darkness with the door shut. I went back and spoke to the lady who had welcomed us and her surprise at the light not working seemed 100% genuine and she apologised profusely and said she would "get it fixed". Then she very quickly and efficiently got us moved to another room, also on the first floor, which was absolutely perfect. I would recommend this hotel for its cleanliness and friendliness but disabled people need to be aware of the stairs."
The Birchtree Hotel
8/10 Good
"We stayed just the one night. The staff were very friendly and eager to provide good service. We enjoyed a pleasant drink on the lovely patio overlooking the river followed by a tasty meal in the bar. Breakfast was excellent . Our room was fairly basic with quite a small ensuite . The WiFi was good. We were pleased with our stay which represented good value."
The Art Bank
10/10 Excellent
"We really enjoyed our stay in the Art Bank, Mandy made us feel very welcome, and her brilliant breakfasts set us up for the day. The Art Bank is very well named, we loved the range of art work on display, and the artistically themed rooms. We stayed in the Monet room, which was comfortable and peaceful. We didn't mind the shared bathroom, we never had any issues sharing it with the other guest, and even managed a relaxing bath. We appreciated all the little touches, and having access to a fridge and microwave. We would be very happy to stay here again, and we may invite some friends to join us next time."
CORBIE NEIST: Overlooking Kirkcudbright Harbour
10/10 Excellent
"Excellent value for money. There are some stairs but that comes with a fabulous view of the harbour. Everything on hand within a short walking distance. No hesitation in rebooking. Excellent host."
