Our stay at Hotel Nanpuso in Hakone was just amazing. The hotel offers beautiful hot springs and a relaxing atmosphere surrounded by nature.
We stayed in a room with an open-air bath, which was a truly special experience, peaceful, private, and perfect after a long day of exploring. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and everything was clean and comfortable.
This hotel is perfect for anyone looking to enjoy Hakone’s traditional charm and natural beauty in a relaxing, luxurious way. We would love to come back again!
The room was nice although our “garden” view was just a tiny patch of grass and some rocks. The service was excellent at this hotel. The onsen was nice although there wasn’t an outdoor area, just a large rectangular pool.
Very nice Kaiseki dinner served in the room.
Hotel Nanpuso has an older, traditional feel, which adds to the charm of this type of Hakone onsen hotel. The room was spacious and comfortable, if a bit old fashioned, and the staff were professional and kind. Dining options are limited, especially midweek or if you do not plan to go back into town, so it is best to book a room that includes meals. Overall a relaxing and pleasant stay.
My Hotel Nanpuso experience was wonderful. The thoughtful support of the staff, the wonderful traditional Japanese facilities including hot spring baths, ensured my stay could not have been better! Thank you
Highly recommend splurging for the upgraded room with the open-air hot spring bath and full kaiseki dinner. It is a big step up from the standard room and absolutely worth it. The private hot spring on the balcony is incredible, especially after a long day of exploring or hiking. Dinner service was excellent — the young lady who served me was polite, professional, and very accommodating despite the language difference. Breakfast the next morning was also great, with a wide variety of dishes. A wonderful, memorable Hakone experience.
Rooms are big and airy, and affordable even for a solo traveller like me. It means more towards a traditional feel than modern, and it's got everything I needed to make my stay comfortable and memorable. I just wish they'd be more open towards tattoos in their public bath, but there are tattoo tolerant onsen on walking distance.
Lovely hotel with charm. We had a half Japanese and half continental room for 3, located in the annex, and it was pretty spacious. The staff was absolutely fantastic throughout our stay and we loved the dinner and breakfast. It was great to be able to use a shuttle (for a very small fee) to take us to the train station at the end of our trip as the walk is a bit much with suitcases.

Liked: Cleanliness, amenities
Disliked: Property conditions & facilities
Our room was in what appeared to be the older annex and the building and room were both old and shabby. There was peeling wallpaper and lamp shades that were coming apart. The shower room was tiny with dirty looking grout and looked like something in a third world country. We were told we didn't have breakfast included, which I know I booked. The staff said they could not add breakfast for us and said they'd check availability the next day, but never got back to us. There are no shops or restaurants near the hotel, and the bus stop is located up a steep hill. A shuttle brought us to the hotel with our luggage but didn't leave early enough for us to make our train ride when we were leaving. Pushing our luggage uphill was no joke! The onsen was the saving grace. It was wonderful with great amenities and yukata available in different sizes. This was the most expensive hotel room on our trip by far, so the lack of breakfast and the shabby rooms were a disappointment.
A Truly Authentic Japanese Experience – Simply Unforgettable!
Staying at Hotel Nanpuso was like stepping into the heart of traditional Japan. From the moment we arrived, we were immersed in authentic cultural touches — the beautiful architecture, serene surroundings, and the warm hospitality.
The traditional yukata clothing provided made the experience feel even more special and immersive. The hot spring (onsen) was absolutely relaxing, and the setting was peaceful and beautifully maintained. The entire hotel, from the design to the atmosphere, radiated elegance and tradition.
Every corner of the building and its surrounding nature made us stop and admire. If you're looking for a true Japanese experience, this is the place. Just wow. Highly recommended!
We really enjoyed our traditional Japanese room complete with our own private onsen. There is very little English spoken at the hotel but a lot of effort put into ensuring we were comfortable. It is a 20 minute walk from the train station but that was fine and a nice relaxing way to end the day. There is also a hotel shuttle but it is very crowded so we opted to walk instead. We booked the half board (breakfast and dinner) with our stay and it was absolutely fantastic. The quality of the food was second to none and each meal felt like a food experience. If you are looking for an authentic Japanese culinary experience with a little bit of elegance added in, go for the half board.
I liked the hotel, my room, the private onsen on the balcony of my room, the food, and the staff. Although it was difficult at times during my stay to communicate with all the staff in English, some staff, who were conversant in English, were able to assist me. Otherwise, I had a very nice time and enjoyed the property very much.
