Things to do in Eastbourne

Beachy Head, a slice of windswept chalk headland overlooking the English Channel, is one of the most striking spots in southeast England. Rising to heights of about 530 feet (160 meters) above sea level, these cliffs provide dramatic views of the rugged coastline. Trek along clifftop paths, enjoy the spectacular coastal scenery and look for birds nesting on the cliffs.

A well-known symbol of the city, the elegant Eastbourne Pier is a lively hub of activity, particularly during the summer months when beachgoers congregate here to eat, drink and be merry. Snack on cold and creamy ice cream or steaming hot fish and chips and walk the length of the pier admiring views out across the seafront.

Sovereign Harbour, or the Waterfront as it’s also known, is a large marina complex encompassing four harbors and a retail and dining development. Browse the shops, walk along the waterfront paths and watch yachts and other boats coming and going at this privileged waterside setting.

The Redoubt Fortress and Military Museum is an imposing early 19th-century fort with an interesting collection of medals, uniforms, weapons and other military memorabilia. March around the parade ground and gun platform and explore the displays inside, where you can see old guns and ammunition as well as learn about life in this fort during the Napoleonic Wars.

Eastbourne Bandstand is a semicircular bandstand located on the seafront Grand Parade. A landmark here for more than 80 years, this old-fashioned venue is still as popular as ever, hosting nightly concerts throughout the summer season. Admire its blue-domed roof and watch fireworks displays and performances from tribute acts and traditional brass bands.
