"We had a very disappointing experience with this property and feel obligated to warn future guests.When we arrived, it was immediately clear the unit had not been cleaned from the previous guests. When we pulled back the sheets on the main bed, we found multiple types of hair under the sheets along with visible stains. Hoping it was just that bed, we checked the spare bedding, but all of it was also dirty, stained, and covered in hair.We pulled out the futon hoping it might be usable, but it was covered in dog hair and sand from previous guests. At that point it was obvious the unit had not been properly cleaned between stays. We also found both live and dead bugs in the unit.We attempted to contact the host and reached out to VRBO through their platform while we were there. After getting nowhere and realizing the property was not in a condition to stay in, we left after about an hour and booked a hotel instead.The next morning the hosts messaged us through VRBO agreeing to a 100% refund, but when we attempted to get the refund they denied it. Despite the written agreement, VRBO was zero help resolving the situation.The listing’s claims about cleanliness were misleading, the unit was clearly not cleaned between guests, and the hosts went back on their promise to refund us. I would strongly recommend avoiding this property."

"Our winter stay was wonderful! The cabin was cozy and well-appointed (we especially loved the woodburning stove), and the location is unbeatable - quiet and serene, but conveniently close to Kalkaska and Traverse City. Emily was super responsive before and during the trip, and truly went above and beyond to make sure our trip was enjoyable. We hope to visit again soon! "

"Spacious newer two bedroom home with 1.5 baths. Clean and well organized. Rooms are on opposite ends of the home for privacy. More than adequate kitchen. Owner was accommodating and responsive to messages. Five minutes from torch lake. Would stay here again. Great for 4-6 guests. Didn’t use the outdoor area in the winter, but there is a nice fire pit and backyard. Owners live on the 38acre property. "

"The place is in an excellent location and beautiful sunsets over lake, and close walking distance to a very small quaint town. Cottage is cute and has been updated in some places very nicely. As it does state it truly is "Grandfather's Cottage". The downside we felt were lack of privacy curtains in the bedrooms. There were very sheer white curtains that were completely see through. It would be very nice if actual privacy curtains or blinds there, so if you wanted to change in a bedroom or shut for some morning sleep in time, not have entire bedroom light at sunrise. The 2 small windows in living room would be nice to have a pull down blind option (there is nothing on these windows) to have privacy from close neighbors if you wanted. There were only two of us, so we hung some bed sheets in bedrooms & improvised with towels in the living room. Electrical outlets are very minimal and very outdated (thus to be expected with age of home). Tough if needing to work with a computer or electronic devices in certain spots/limited capacity. I give it an 8.5/10 for being clean (will admit, I probably have a little OCD on the cleaning scale). Great place if you want to be directly on lake and have the views, along with the BEST feature of being able to bring your fur babies along. Thanks for the adventure!"

"We loved our stay here!!! The house was beautiful and had every amenity you could think of. The view of the lake was amazing and the pontoon boat rental was definitely the highlight of our trip. We definitely will be back. "

"Great location by Torch Lake and close to village of Alden.Beautifully designed house. Spacious rooms and a great family room with a nice big TV to watch any sports events. Very clean and organized. Highly recommended."
