"The room was spacious and clean with all amenities. The staff were attentive and pleasant and the food was excellent, both breakfast and dinner wih a wide variety of choice. Parking was convenient. The only drawback was getting there....a long journey and difficult approach lane with a cattle grid and potholes. That aside, the hotel was excellent and well worth a visit."

"Mayanne was very friendly and very attentive. Access to the property (through the lot of the adjacent gas station) and parking were tight, but workable. Breakfast consisted of croissants, toast, yogurt, milk, orange juice, coffee and hot water served on a cart Mayanne left at our door with a knock. An assortment of cold cereals and some fruit were available on tables in the small hallway we shared with other guests. The room was cozy and the shower was the smallest we've used, but the only significant issue with ammenities was that there was only one accessible electrical outlet, so we had to switch between the TV, the fan, my wife's hair dryer and charging our phones."

"The perfect base camp on Skye. Exactly what we wanted for our stay. Walking distance to the Fairy Glen, RHA falls, and the port as well as a quick drive into Portree if you want to go into actual town. Not to mention the stunning view from our room. The staff is amazingly helpful and I can’t say enough good things about the restaurant."

"We had a wonderful week at the Backrest. The house is beautifully located and the views from the living room and from the deck at the front are fantastic. We found everything really clean, and very comfortable, with all the items needed to make us feel 'at home'. We were lucky to be there on really lovely sunny days, but I think it would be great also in colder times and promises to be a very cosy place. Mette was very helpful and responsive when we had any questions ahead of arriving, and all the information we got was accurate. We would definitely look to stay again at the Backrest. We travelled with our cat, who seemed to be very content and quickly found all the right places to settle down for long sleeps, allowing us to get out and about. We really appreciated being able to bring him along!"

The location is to die for, the house and property are absolutely stunning and clean and we had great sleeps (sooo quiet) and the most relaxing time! It’s the best place to unwind and detach. "This places is great, and the views are amazing. Unfortunately it rained the entire time we were there, so we did not get one of the fantastic sunsets that others have raved about. However, we appreciated the supplies left to get a fire going (and instructions on how to properly use the stove), because it was nice to have after a day out in the chilly rain. The only thing that is not in the listing that I think folks should know is that the bathroom is on the first floor, and both bedrooms are on the second floor. The bathroom is quite spacious and recently renovated. But, the stairs are a bit short and have a curve. So, if you need to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, it's not ideal. It wasn't a big deal for us, but it may be others. That's why I wanted to make sure it was noted. Also, the clothes dryer is behind one of the kitchen cabinets. We didn't find it until our last day there. Because there are several locations to hang-dry clothing, we thought there was only a washing machine (it doesn't have a cabinet door hiding it). So if rains on you the whole time (like it did us), be sure to open all the cabinets to find the dryer that can help dry your clothing. "
