Grand Naniloa Hotel Hilo - a Doubletree by Hilton

"Hotel has a beautiful view. The rooms are nice. The bed was not hard, but not over soft either and the pillows were good too. The curtains let in a lot of light and are not room darking, but that just makes it easier to get up and enjoy the day and explore the island although it is tempting to spend the whole day at the hotel. The hotel trys to very upscale, but the hallways make it look like a 2 star hotel. Staff are very nice and friendly. The restaurant is very expensive and didn't eat there because of the prices. There is a resort fee that is not included in the price and you have to pay for parking. Lots of "stray" cats, but since I liked cats I enjoyed them. The cats seemed to be friendly and not overly scared of people, but were not a nuisance. Room had a slight ant problem. House keeping sprayed the ants, but that didn't seem to make a difference. I just kept food in the refrigerator or in a zip lock bag it iwas opened. I did see a sea turtle in the ocean that was in front of the hotel. The hotel also allows guest to borrow snorkels during their stay. I didn't get to use them, but I am thinking snorkeling by the hotel might be nice. It is with in ten minute drive to Walmart and fast food restaurants and walking distance to a nice garden."

"Great location on the bay. Walking distance to restaurants, and Liliʻuokalani Park. Directly on Hilo Bay. They also have laundry facilities which is a plus. The building is old but clean and comfortable. There’s no wifi in the room and no air conditioning, but that’s okay with us as there’s ceiling fan and also big fans inside the room. The view from our room makes up from the lack if AC and Wifi."

"Pool view, recent renovations, nice studio equiped kitchette. Large screen tv in sleeping area with bedside charging options. Remote fan, remote tv and a/c. Common area views. Back parking lot allows parking directly in front of the building. Unit had a breeze at night and balcony provides a teak bistro set and nice hammock. What it lacks in dressers or closets it gains in its cooler elevation and central location in town allowing easy access to all sides of Hilo town. Unit is in an older complex but new renovations, pool, and lots of back lot parking make it a winner."

"We had a bit of unfortunate timing with our trip, but the owner was very responsive and helpful throughout the process - the unit was clean and had easy parking and was centrally located to all of our kids tournament events, it is a great location and peaceful. For a small family trip it’s one of our top choices, thank you!"

"The house is decorated very cute and was loaded with thoughtful details to have everything you need to enjoy your stay. The snorkle gear needed to be cleaned, but there were towels, first aid kits, sewing kit, even bug spray and sunscreen! The kitchen had everything we needed, since we cooked most of our meals there and the grill worked well and was clean. The bedrooms have a wall unit air conditioner, but two of them automatically turned off after a short time, so it was tough to stay comfortable, especially over night, when you aren't able to go over and press the button to restart them. (Possibly user error?) The living room, kitchen and bathroom have no AC. Although we wanted to sit together to eat or watch TV for a few hours, it was so hot that everyone ended up sitting on their beds near the AC units. There are no TVs in the bedrooms. If you are using this as base camp to sleep and not spending time in the house, it works well. It isn't a comfortable place to hang out in if you aren't used to the high temps with extremely high humidity. The driveway is extremely steep, but there is also street parking if you are afraid to drive down. The host was responsive and helpful - great communication!"
