This was not the first stay.
Since Jan 2011 our family stayed at the same hotel about 8 times.
Overall it's a very good hotel for a family vacation, but I will only highlight what went downhill during these years:
- rooms 1: first they removed the shower stall doors, replacing them with curtains. then the curtains disappeared completely and now there's no privacy and the bathroom can not be shared (at least not easily)
- rooms 2: first there was good hot water temperature and good pressure. then they started running out of hot water (especially in the evenings), the temperature dropped (apparently the water heaters were replaced and could not keep up with the flow any longer). now there's no pressure which makes washing hair difficult for persons who have good thick 'manes' :)
- territory: they used to participate in some preservation programs and had toucans and other rare birds you could see. no more, even the cages are dismantled.
Now a specific concern: renovation coming in 2026 (6 mo closure). I used to like the stucco way they finished the walls of the buildings and the rooms (very rough texture but looking unique). I'm afraid they are going to remove it just making it look 'modern', i.e. boring flat painted surfaces. The hotel will lose all the charm if they do that. Since it's already pretty expensive I might have to go elsewhere.

Grounds are great. seaweed Sargassum was a bit of an issue, waves were very enjoyable. Animals everywhere, Cenote swimming in crystal clear waters with mini fishes nibbling at your toes.

Great food, great customer service, great drinks, great pool, great room service and cleanliness. Didn't like the $300 room credit scam. It was basically a 25%off coupon. Room credit should be
ok to use for Spa services or excursions. It wasn't, only 25% off if you spent $100 or more, not right!!!!

The resort was beautiful and very clean. The groundskeepers were working tirelessly to keep it immaculate. The wildlife was one of our favorite parts! Good food, good drinks, fabulous pool. The sargassum at the beach was a bit of a bummer, but didn’t stop us from enjoying the ocean once we were past it. Some things are a bit dated, but they will be renovating this summer. Would go back!

Loved the beautiful entry at check-in, loved the jungle with animals, loved the cleanliness of the pools and chairs, loved the well kept up beach. Food was delicious and on point. Entertainment was fantastic.

The pool and staff were amazing! We loved the IBEROSTAR app as well to make reservations and being notified when our room was cleaned. Spider monkeys and all if the wildlife in the jungle at the eesort were an added bonus!

The resort was wonderful! The pool and food were 10/10. Staff was some of the friendliest people. There are activities everyday that keep the whole family entertained as a family of 6 that stayed for a week. The activity personnel were incredible! Beach access was great and the beach itself was very clean.

We loved all the animals that live on the resort and roam freely around (cats, coatis, agoutis, flamingos, raccoons, howler monkeys, iguanas, peacocks, turtles).
Staff were all very friendly. Food was typical resort food, so-so. The Mediterranean Restaurant had the best à la carte food. The sargassum situation changed daily, some days it was nonexistent, and then the next day there was tons. Staff did their best to keep the beaches clear. Luckily, the pool is nice and big for those days when ocean swimming is a no go. We enjoyed the theater shows and activities like beach volleyball, cornhole, pingpong, and foosball. We also loved that the resort was only about a ten min cab ride to the various XCaret parks. We didn’t try the spa or the gym, but they have both. There are nice paths through the jungle area with nice water features here and there. It was a bit disappointing that the no smoking policy was not enforced very strictly.

This was my first time staying at the Iberostar Waves Tucan. The property grounds were very well kept, and the rooms were clean and comfortable. The food was fantastic! I really enjoyed the entertainment each evening, and the entertainers and staff were very friendly and present throughout the day. Lots of activities to choose from every day, or you can just relax by the pool or ocean.

Property was acceptable, staff average my room was new redecorated and was cute. Unfortunately after my attempts to reach out to the hotel with no response , I requested a room on the main floor due to a disability I finally contacted Expedia customer service who were wonderful and I got my 1st floor room. I must say the concierge service at the hotel were good. I stayed at this property 2 years ago (because my sister-in who s in Candda has a friend who is some kind of travel agent and gets a “discount “ or cheaper prices?? I would not have stayed there but wanted to connect with my other brother-in law and sister in law who go with the group. I stated last time I would not go back, but my bad, wanted to vacation with them again, so I went thru Expedia’s- prices were excellent, a package with flight-transportation and accommodations-perfect / I am a single traveler and usually pay twice as much as couples. Anyway back to hotel, overall OK, but the food was 3rd rate, only 2 of the specialty restaurants were good - the Italian and the Japanese had great food. All the buffets’s were subpar, bars lacking premium alcohol and service was slow.
This review is not relevant since they are closing for renovations in May. I hope they up their game. I have used RIU properties in Mexico and they are leaps and bounds above Iberostar. Which is now selling memberships in their next vacation endeavor. But if you want an overpriced poor vacation book Iberostar Tuscan. Only my opinion
