“In general, the place was fine. It’s a bit far to Gion District and Central Tokyo, but is close to the Golden Temple and Ryoan-ji Temple. Because of the heat and mobility issues, we took cabs everywhere else, cabs are easy to get, and even easier with the GO app. I was not impressed with the cleaning. Everything was superficially clean, but the corners where the floor meets the wall, and behind toilet had dusty and lint. All the cords for lamps and chandeliers were dusty and broken parts of……

“We actually did not stay at the property because when we got there we realized the photo of the stairs to the upstairs bedrooms did not at all accurately depict how steep they are. Yes there is a photo of the stairs, but the stairs themselves were actually more like a ladder. The bamboo railing was very light and flimsy and the stairs themselves were very slippery. In short, it would have simply been difficult for us to sleep upstairs if we planned to get up to use the restroom in the middle……

“There were two Japanese well maintained gardens and stone paving hallway outside. They were beautiful and they made us feel very historical culture. The summer season in Kyoto is very uncomfortable to stay outside because of the hight temperature but, in this house, for some reason we could stay comfortably without air conditioner. It was a huge house but all the rooms were cleaned perfectly. Especially we were impressed with the bathroom. The high-tech toilets beautiful wooden bath tub made us……

The location is beyond ideal -- excellent access to public transportation if you want to get to central Kyoto, yet far enough away that you can enjoy the best of Kyoto's culture, natural beauty, and local food in peace and quiet. Easy walking access to most amenities, and the best part is the "backyard" of Funaokayama Park.
