Shorty Hotel is a friendly place, accommodation is clean and adequate. It was a little hard getting to rooms as we had to negotiate stairs. Both of us have disabilities I could not recommend this hotel for people who have mobility challenges.
Great little place to stay for a couple nights. Really great for the price a very friendly staff. Adjacent to the Shortland pub where there is really good food

Negatives:- The room smelt of its last male occupant. The fridge had not been cleaned out. The carpet was wet in the room by the fridge. The curtains were broken and had come off the tracks. The hand basin was cracked and dirty. Limited channels on the tv.
The main womens bathroom was dated, water leaked all over the floor when previously used and shower stall not cleaned at all. Communal kitchen had no plates or cutlery.
The positives:- the bed was a good quality and comfortable, close proximity to the restaurant and bar, and plenty of onsite parking. Relatively quiet at night.
Very budget friendly and slightly better than staying in a dorm room at a backpackers.
Might be my age but expected a bit more comfort overall.
A very comfortable, clean room. Set off the street so it was quiet. Take away menu from the hotel was delicious. Staff were very friendly. We wouldnt hesitate to return on our next stop over.
It was great. Quiet, lovely and cool, clean, secure all good no problems at all. Staff are great very friendly. Would stay again tomorrow if needed. Many thanks.

Liked: Staff & service
The location was pretty handy. The room basic but for the money reasonable. The pub, staff and food were great. We had to pay $100 room key/damage deposit which we were not aware of until checking in. Would have been good to know prior.
Comfy beds and good bedding. Shared bathrooms below average. Toilets falling apart. Poor lighting. Limited power points. Decent security. No housekeeping. Great bistro food.

Rock bottom price for the area. Only really suitable if you are travelling on a tight budget and even then I would only recommend a single overnight stay. The staff at the Shorty hotel are super friendly and the food/drink there is fantastic. In hindsight probably should have spent another $50 for something nicer.

Heating, bed, linen, hot water etc are good. Non smoking is also good. Parking is good. Expedia indicated free wifi and check in time as 12noon. No wifi. Real check In time is 2pm. Restaurant closed early. Finding a place to get food in the night is difficult.
the food and the pub attached were first rate the facilities in the room were nonexistent - a communal bathroom, no access for patrons with back issues i.e. disabled bathrooms - my wife had to call me to help her off the toilet, ramps for easy access to rooms, parking for guests not given a parking space reserved for their personal use, uneven road surface in car park. We have never before left a motel by 6.00 am because we didn't like the conditions - not even coffee

Close to high way to travel home, staff helpful, rooms needed an up grade, very old looking, was not a where you had to leave a $100 deposit for your room in case of damage, which was return on leaving but found it very inconvenient was not told when room was booked.
As I had just come from John Hunter hospital after paying big money to see specialist this was not in my budget, why something was not said on booking the room I don’t know would not stay there again
Ceiling fan was extremely noisy and wobbled to the point it couldn’t be used. Air con timer was set to 16deg so even though we turned it off it switched back on so room was freezing when we returned from tea.
Food and service inside the venue was great.
Shared kitchen is very old and shabby.
Ok if you just need a bed for a night.
If you're after a no fuss place to rest your head then you can't find a better place to stay in Newcastle.
The check in is a breeze as Sam and the rest of the staff are super nice and easy to work with.
The rooms (though basic) are a 10/10 for cleanliness, comfort and have everything you need. There's free parking on site (huge carpark). The wifi is free (no password required) there's air-conditioning, bar fridge kettle and TV in your room (microwave and toaster are available in the communal kitchen)
I've been staying in one of the single shared bathroom for nearly 3 weeks and in all that time I've only ever seen another person in the bathroom three times since being here.
The bed is really comfortable and even the single bed has 2 fluffy pillows.
I can't recommend this place highly enough
Please do not stay here. Price horrible for the conditions of the room. Pictures show the front of establishment (pub area) which looks quiet nice, however the back area where the actual rooms are looks like a drug-house. The place is called "hotel" but it's actually a motel, as it says in the front of the room's building. In addition, the mold/smell inside the room and hallways was digusting at best. My partner and i could not sleep as our throat hurt from pungent mold smell. All night the walls were wet and sweating. Not to mention the poor quality of the bed and the "furniture" in the room. For the love of god just go somewhere else to sleep one night. I would consider my car instead.
