“I generally stay in 4–5 star accommodation, and based on the website description and previous reviews, I expected Hay’s Wood Retreat to fall into that category. Unfortunately, the standard of the lodge did not match the ‘luxury’ billing — in my assessment it was closer to a solid 3-star property. If you’re used to genuinely high-end accommodation, I’d recommend tempering your expectations regardless of the marketing or other reviews you may have read. It’s a perfectly adequate stay, but……

“There was absolutely no things left like salt and pepper washing up liquid of any amount . No towels and the beds were very uncomfortable. The general condition was satisfactory however the floor was dirty and had to be moped. The overall vibe wasn't very welcoming as the caravan felt soulless. Having said all that, the value was very good and we would visit again, despite these niggles.”

“We booked a caravan for three nights during the last May bank holiday; the place was not too busy and we were given a place nearly at the end of the carvan park which meant that it was quiet. Due to the heatwave the place would become quite hot during the day but we had space at the front of it to cool and have a refreshing drink. Despite being small it had everything we needed. “I stumbled on a little gem, literally last minute midnight book anything adventure. The room was immaculately clean and very well presented. The host was warm friendly and unassuming with a very hands off leave you in peace approach. Recommended Gav”

“Paid extra for early check in had all the emails to say I’d paid and was told they had no record of us paying and that we were too early and couldn’t be checked in yet.Was told to wait and we be called when it was ready waited 45 minutes never got a call to be told it was ready 10 minutes after we left”

“Stayed for 2 nights. 2 adults, 2 children and our dog. This place is a hidden gem in North Yorkshire. We had the most magical time. The Tree house and hut tub were pre heat for our arrival. Despite being very cold the little Tree house was so so cozy and remained cosy all night long after the fire had burnt out. There are multiple lights and fairy lights all round so it’s well Illuminated and you can swap the lights at reception daily for fully charged ones. There is plenty of wood at the end of……

“Hi, We arrived at your holiday park 17th October for a weekend away for 3 nights. When arriving at the caravan we notice that the caravan smelt off wee and cigarettes. After a further investigation we notice that the was a urine stain on the sofa, the sofa was also covered on crumbs and dirty. We then discovered that there was hair in the bed, sink and shower. Picture below. We made the fastest decision that we aren’t staying in this caravan due to the poor hygiene and smell. Baring in mind this……
