"Unfortunately, I had a very disappointing experience at this hostel.
When I arrived, I had to wait nearly an hour before anyone showed up at the reception, which was already not a great start. Prior to my stay, I had sent a message via Hostelworld requesting a quiet room, but this was completely ignored. I was given a room facing the street instead.

"Wow,, for my first time staying in a Hostel traveling solo I truly had an amazing time at this spot. I loved it there. The staff was amazing, the bedrooms were clean, and they breakfast that was actually good. Great location right near the beach and around plenty of food options that are all affordable. The culture and vibe is well worth it. I’ll be back again in April. "

"We booked the half board option, plenty of flavours and good value for a family who can never agree on food, could have lunch or dinner 2 course from the restaurant menu. Food was very good and reason we booked.
Gym was a bit of an after thought, small, strange hand weights, minimal lighter weights, no kettle bells.
Kids club better suited to younger children, more play options, less options for 11 + yrs although there's pool table, 1 large swimming pool fish feeding and table football. There's is a hill to hotel, it's ok if you like to walk off the dinners and breakfasts!"
"The rooms were good size but they need furniture upgrade infact the whole resort needs a furniture face lift also didn’t liked the glass wall dividing bathroom and bedroom don’t know what’s the point for that and the curtains are not even blackout of those glass who ever goes to the toilet at night the room get light from bathroom and the other person or kids wakes up . The breakfast was amazing although would appreciate if there was halal options same way they have done vegetarian options . The room was cleaned very nicely everyday . The pools slides all good . Staff is very friendly and helpful. The room service whether it’s for food towels or any other thing very prompt and quick response. The gardens at the property are amazing . One more thing I would like to add had my massage done the resort the room was private but no lights were dimmed no background music although the massage was amazing but if these small things are added would have made a huge difference in relaxation. The property is in excellent location that everything is walking distance like food ,souvenirs shopping, laundry, money exchange , massages also tour operators. Beach is just across the road was amazing when coming back from beach can wash yourself and feet at the showers inside the resort before entering your rooms .
One issue I had was absence of halal food even for lunch and dinner at resort they have so many Muslim tourists coming in don’t know why it doesn’t cater for its Muslims guests ."
"Great breakfast, amazing pool area and a good selection of food throughout the day. The room was spacious, spotless, and had a large balcony. The location is excellent walking distance of plenty of restaurants, shops, and other businesses, and only a 5 minute walk to the beach. We had a wonderful stay and would definitely return.
Special thank you to Khai at the Bar and Sindee at the front office!"
"Our stay at Grand Kata VIP exceeded every expectation and was one of the highlights of our first trip to Thailand. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel genuinely welcomed and treated us like valued guests rather than just another reservation.
What truly sets this hotel apart is its incredible team. Every staff member was warm, professional, and always willing to go above and beyond to accommodate our family. Whether it was answering questions, helping with transportation, offering local recommendations, or making sure everything was perfect during our stay, nothing ever seemed like too much trouble. Their kindness and attention to detail made us feel completely at home.
The hotel itself was beautiful, comfortable, and in a fantastic location, making it easy to enjoy everything Kata has to offer. After long days exploring Phuket, it was the perfect place to relax.
This was our first visit to Thailand, and Grand Kata VIP played a huge part in making it such an unforgettable experience. We will absolutely be returning, and we highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for exceptional hospitality. Thank you to the entire team for making our vacation so special—we can’t wait to come back!"
"Great hotel for family traveling with kids. We should’ve splurged for the swim in suites. The suites was spacious for family of 4. Amenities included flip flops, swim towels. Breakfast buffet had a lot of options for kids and adults. Adult only pool is 12+ and faces the beach. The beach was spectacular, water was warm, clean and clear"
