"Good basic 4 star hotel, as a base with a pool and breakfast it was fine for us. As long as a little tired decor doesn’t trigger you you’ll be great. Location is fantastic with a small park next door, shopping centre 5mins walk away and dozens of bars and restaurants nearby."

"We had a truly wonderful 5-night stay at the Castanheiro Boutique Hotel! Every single member of the staff was exceptionally helpful and friendly, and the entire hotel was spotless. The breakfast was lovely with a fantastic variety of choice to start the day. It’s a buffet style but you can also order item cooked fresh. To top it off, the rooftop pool area is simply amazing—easily the best in Funchal! We couldn’t have asked for a better stay and would definitely recommend!"

"Amazing staff with a great location only a few blocks away from the main city center. The pool on the roof has an amazing view for days where you’d like to take a break and relax. The breakfast is solid. Make sure to reserve parking as there are limited spots!!!"

"Amazing hotel and staff! Very clean and lovely rooftop bar and pool - front desk gave many great recommendations, from hikes to restaurants. Would absolutely stay again! Recommended a parking lot 5 minute walk away that’s only €4.50 per day, so was easy to have a rental car."

"Great place and close to everything but if you are staying in the mixed dorms do not leave your valuables out. The door is never locked and people are in and out of the room all day both travelers and cleaning staff. My expensive earbuds that were on my bed were stolen out of the room when I went for a hike. Make sure you lock your valuables up, most people are trustworthy but there’s always a chance."
